Prospective Ludlow Taylor Parent

What do you think of LT?

You're on the waiting list, so if you're granted a spot, consider the FACT that LT had the highest test scores on the Hill -- including those typically fawned over ESs of Brent and Maury. But if you've really done your homework you'd know that. That said, if you're still conflicted, go private and save the LT slot for some lucky OB family who wants to be there.

I feel like an asshole for even having the thought (so, ergo I go voice it on DCUM like an even bigger asshole) but this feels high. Is there a shelter in-bounds for LT? Perhaps I'm a sheltered jerk for not realizing how prevalent homelessness can be, but that's 12% of the student enrollment! Is it possible MD residents are gaming the system this way?

The shelter is OB for LT, but most, if not all, of those kids are in the upper grades. The shelter they're from is the old DC General Hospital. The kids are spread throughout different schools on the Hill. For the record, they're apparently testing well.

Not so sure about the Principal Cobbs effect. Far too many neighborhood parents have bailed after one or more years of hard work on the PTA. Any chance that she's burnng out and seeking greener pastures in 2015? Please, God.

Here's a newsflash -- Cobbs left for greener pastures in Colorado. LT's got a new principal as of this school year. she's already had meet and greets. What are you doing on this message board if you don't know that?

If you'd be willing to give a little more detail, do you know if it's always the same crowd of guys, or is there a lot of turnover? Do they ever harass people walking down the streets or move their gathering onto the sidewalk?

If so, why have neighbors not pestered the cops until they just decide to leave? I've been living in another part of the Hill for 4 years and have never seen anything like that going on day-in, day-out, much less next to a school.

Not the PP, but a couple LT parents raised this question at a meeting at the school shortly after the shooting, and the MPD reps at the meeting indicated there is no loitering law in DC, so they can't just "move people along." The police asked for time to do their work, and I got the impression their approach is to use vice squad investigations to gather evidence of illegal drug use/gambling. But others at the meetin or in the neighborhood may have better info!

Here's another newsflash: You're replying to a message posted in May, from before Principal Cobbs announced her departure. Check the date before you school someone on their failure to possess precognitive powers.

I don't live there, so I don't have that kind of detail (i.e. same guys, different guys...really not sure)
I only have acquaintances who live on that street and they never had problems with harassment at all (we had a talk on the topic after the shooting). I think you'd be best served by talking to some people who live there, I think they would be nice to you if you went by and asked around how they feel.

Better yet, ask the residents of 615.

What a random place to ask. Why don't you try the MPD-1 list?
