Hard to say. What year was each ring bought and did you go to a retailer or buy wholesale? Also, a 3 carat diamond on someone 5'11 with long fingers probably doesn't look as huge as it would on a 5'2 size 0 person. To each his own. |
| I think my engagement rung was around $6000. My wedding band is maybe around $2000. I can't remember. It's your typical engagement ring (one carat on a plain platinum band). I am sometimes envious of other women's more unique rings and have thought about having it reset. We can afford an "upgrade" now but I realize there are much more important things (for US) to spend our money on and I would feel guilty. Anyway, I'm pretty plain so it fits me in the long run. And as I sit here right now, trying to imagine my friends bands, I can't think of a single one besides this one friend who has this amazingly beautiful ring that probably cost over $50k. I could never wear it but it's gorgeous!! |
| What a waste of money |
|
Engagement ring-no idea, it was a family ring. I won't wear new diamonds-too much baggage there with conflict diamonds and mining practices. Unlike a pp, I only wanted a secondhand ring! It's a tiny diamond though, so probably not worth too much. I think it's beautiful though, but I never wear it anymore.
Wedding band was $500 (DH's was $800). |
| Engagement ring $5k, diamond band also $5k. I'm happy with both a decade later. |
| $99. It was a plain silver band from the mall (we were poor grad students). Sadly, I never wear it since that's not really my thing. We talk about buying nicer rings, on our next big anniversary, that we might actually wear. |
|
Around $10k. I love it and have worn it every day since I got it 10+ years ago. I don't really wear any other jewelry besides it and the wedding band.
Wedding band was free, I inherited my grandma's band when she passed and always wanted that to be my wedding band. |
| 1.5ct and was 15k. Band was 6k. Wish I had spent more too! |
|
Um, no idea. It was a gift. I never thought to ask!
Wedding ring was about $1000, which I know since we picked them out together. |
|
Wedding ring was $96.
My engagement ring was a hair over $10K though. |
I completely agree. $25k+ for something the size of a nickel? I'd much rather use that money to take nice vacations for the next 5-10 years. |
| Engagement ring was $3.5K, would have been more but the center stone is a sapphire instead of a diamond. I think the wedding band was about the same, it is a plain platinum band with a ring of small diamonds. We could have afforded more but spending so much on jewelry makes me twitchy. Honestly, if I had known where to get high-quality looking fakes for less money, I would've gone that route. I do love my sapphire ring and it looks very classic, but as far as I'm concerned its main function is to show the world I'm committed to DH, and that can certainly be achieved for <$7K. |
| My engagement ring was about $5,000 (sapphire--I don't know the exact cost, since my husband picked it out), and my wedding ring is a plain band that was under $500. I love them and wear them everyday. A "fancier" ring wouldn't suit me as well, and I definitely didn't want a diamond ring. I don't wish he'd spent more. |
But why not spend that much if you can still take nice vacations? |
| 18 karat gold bands-$600 for both.Don't like jewelry. |
