S/o how much was your wedding ring?

Zero. I don't wear jewelry.

I just really don't get why anyone obsesses over wedding rings and the size, and the cost, unless they are completely materialistic. If you want your DH to spend $20k and buy you a big piece of bling, just go ask him.

Gosh I would feel nervous wearing something worth 20k on my finger. Maybe for a special event, but not every day.

Engagement ring - i don't know, it was a gift.
Wedding band - about $3,500 if I recall correctly (2009)

Is a $20k ring really go to bring you more happiness? So wasting $12k on a bigger diamond is worth something to you?

Yes, I have spent money on dumber things that don't last. At least a ring lasts forever.
No it won't change my life but to me it's a good way to spend that money.

But depreciates instantly, by a lot.

Yes but I am not buying it for an investment, my other purchases depreciate also.

Instead of wasting your money on stupid material things you could put it to some good use in your community.

I prefer to spend it on myself since I work for my money.

My engagement ring was about $3500. My wedding ring was $50, back in the stone ages when gold was cheap.

Blue Nile one carat solitaire with platinum band: $5,500, insured for $10,000. (It's sitting in my jewelry box everyday)

Platinum plain wedding band: $1200.00 (it's the only piece of jewelry I wear daily.)

Then just go buy yourself a big.flashy diamond already. Why do you need to.come on here and ask how much other people's jewelry cost? Does it mayter? You want to show the world how rich and special you are by wearing bling. So go for it. Thread not necessary.

I don't remember the individual prices, but the two wedding bands and engagement ring together came to almost $800. I wish we hadn't done the engagement ring, because I didn't really want it but thought somehow I should have one. (we bought them together, it wasn't a surprise or anything.)

Yeah, the price of new diamonds is set by the huggish deBears (sp?) cartel.

There is like no secondary market for 'used' diamonds, they depreciate rapidly despite their enternal quality.

Honestly if I was wearing something worth 25k and as gaudy as 3 carat, I would worry I would lose a finger one day on the streets of DC. People can be pretty violent over shoes and smartphones, and this is an order of magnitude higher stakes and flamboyance.

Thanks, I sometimes feel like we overspent on our wedding bands (together they were 1200) but seeing really the range people go we didn't really go all out.

Anyone have tension set rings? I know they are prob a fad but still seemed pretty cool.

About $500 each for engagement ring and wedding band. And I consider my engagement ring too fancy for everyday wear.
