Anyone have a successful 1st IVF at the age of 40?

9:22 here. Best of luck to you. I'll also be turning 40 this year and am turning to IVF after three failed IUIs. I'm a little scared, but heartened by the several recent BFPs posted here.

OP here. Thanks!!! Yes, IVF no doubt increase your chances so go for it! I was scared at first but not anymore. I gave myself my injections last night as I will do with my HCG and PIO injections. I'm not afraid of needles so it was a piece of cake. If you are afraid of needles, it can be a different story. I wish you the best of luck and hope that you too get a wonderful early 40th birthday gift!!! Let me know if you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

Hi, I am new to posting here, or anywhere for that matter. I was happy to come across this one as I am a patient at Shady Grove too. I am lying here on bedrest following my ET yesterday. This is 1st IVF /ICSI w/ AH (after 3 IUI's). I was Bravelle and Menopur, triggered earlier than expected, had ER on 1/24. 8 eggs, 4 mature and fertilized, on day 3 (yesterday) they were 8 cell, grade 1; 10 cell, grade 1, 10 cell, grade 2; 5 cell can't remember grade. They transferred the first 3 mentioned. I am very nervous and just waiting, trying to read everything I can about successful ET, cell/grade success, etc... I am 40, with no apparent issues, but DH has low sperm. Any feedback on the cell/grade #'s and their potential success would be great. Again, I am just so nervous here (lying around on bedrest doesn't help either, but I plan to stay this way for few days).

ps to my post about my cell/grade #.s At Shady Grove I think they told me that their grading is 1 through 5, with 1 being best. Does that sound familiar to anyone. Now, I am not sure what I heard, as I was totally overwhelmed by the whole thing.

Hi there!!! OP here. Good luck and stick vibes!!! I believe SG ranks egg quality 1-5, 5 being best. Or the changed the grading? I transferred 2 4AA blasts and got pregnant. If it's a 5 that means it's already hatching. Could you call your nurse back and ask her how they grade because I wold be interesed to know if that changed.

Hi, I had the Assisted Hatching done before transfer so does that help? I am going to check with SG today to find out about the grading. I got the impression from the doctor who did the transfer that these were really good, what they are usually looking for to transfer, so I'm praying for good outcome. I have pregnancy test 2/11. the waiting part is the hardest!

Yes, absolutely!!! AH helps your embies hatch and aids in implantation!!! I would be interested to know how they grade to!!! Please keep me updated!!! I think your chances are VERY GOOD!!!

OP here...

A little update..

I went to the clinic this a.m. after 9 days of stimming and it looks like I have a total of 22. But, 10 were a little under 10cm, meaning they might not catch up in time. They measured the 12 contenders that were between 11-15 (most around 12-14). My ER could be on Sat. or Sun. I hope for Sun so they can let the stragglers grow a bit more.

OP here...

I had my ER this a.m. at 7:30 at SG. Dr. Greenhouse did my ER so I knew I was in good hands. The retreived 22 eggs, which is not bad for an almost 40 year old. I just want one of those eggs to be the golden one. That's all I ask for!!!

thank you! I just got the call from Shady Grove with my fert report. OUt of the 22, 18 were mature and 13 fertilized. I guess that is not bad. I will get a call tommorrow if it's day 3 or day 5 transfer.
