Infertility Support and Discussion
I'll be having one soon and hopefully it will be a success on the first try!
|
| I had my first done a year ago this month at 41 years and 11 months! DS was born in May! Best of luck to you. Will be sending good baby karma your way. |
| same here - success on 1st try. 40+ - good luck! |
|
Thank you both for your responses! I am 39.5 going on 40. I have a 16 month old daughter from on IUI and would like to give her a sib. Can I ask how many eggs you had retrieved and did you have a 3 or 5 day transfer? I go to the Shady Grove clinic in Annandale.
Thanks! |
I did not have a successful first IVF at 40 Right now I'm on my second round and just turned 41. I'm progressing differently on the drugs than last time, and they are waiting a bit further to try and get more/larger eggs. Keep your fingers crossed, without health coverage for this we can't afford to do this again.

OP here. I'm sorry your 1st IVF didn't work. It really sucks when you are paying out of pocket! I will be paying out of pocket to. What meds are you on? I think I will be on follitsim (or gonal f) and meopur, along with lupron. I hope it works for you this time!

| I got pregnant on my third IVF cycle after 40. I was actually 41 on the cycle where I conceived. I started on the Lupron stop protocol (which had worked for me previously when I was 38), but after a poor response this time (1st over 40 cycle), they switched me to a Ganirelix protocol. I got pregnant on the first Ganirelix cycle but had a miscarriage. I'm now 8 months pregnant following the second Ganirelix cycle. |
| Poster here who didn't have success the first time. I'm on Lupron (20) and Follistim (250) twice per day. Started at day 2 and here it is day 14 and I'll be seeing the doctor later to see if I do HCG tonight. I hope there are more/better quality this go round. Luckily the meds are covered by a co-pay but we've blown through the FSA and savings for this round. I wouldn't be able to try again until January if we decide to try max out the FSA for this next year. I've also been doing accupuncture for three months now hoping that will push me into success! |
OP here. Congrats! I'm so happy for you! Do you mind me asking how many eggs were retrieved with this cycle and how many were put back?
I'm a little nervous. My RE is giving me a 40% when the stats for the clinic is 31.6% (38-40yrs old) When I had an IUI and was on 50mg Clomid I produced 9 follicles so I know I'm a good responder. I think I will be on 175-225iu gonal F and 75iu Menopur. I really hope this works but I'm only goin gthru this once since it's out of pocket! |
OP again... I'll be on the same meds but half the follitism your on and 75iu Menopur. My meds are not covered though! I hope you get some good quality eggs this time around! Wow...so you will be triggering tonight? Please keep me posted on your cycle! I want to cheer you on! Good Luck & Best Wishes!

Poster here on 2nd cycle, triggered on Thursday, retrieval Saturday was 17 eggs. Couldn't believe it, I wonder how much acupuncture helped all this. Right now there are 12 fertilized and I'll wait to see if we'll do a 3 or 5 day transfer. Originally hadn't planned to freeze anything due to my age and only 2 fertilizing last time. Not sure what to expect, but praying for the best!
|
wonderful! Hopefully, you'll have a 5 ay transfer with some to freeze! Sending you lots of good luck wishes!!!
|
| I got pregnant right after I turned 40- like you , wanted a sibling for my then 1 year old.. I got pregnant at first try (and had done 4 iuis before this).. i only had 3 eggs retrieved- 2 fertilized normally and 2 embryos were put in- one became a miscarriage and one is sleeping in her room right now.. |
|
OP here...
OMG that's a miracle! 3 eggs retrieved with 2 fertililzing and you have a baby from that! I'm surprised your cycle wasn't cancelled as I know many Dr.'s that would turn that into an IUI. Thank god it wasn't! Congrats!!!

12:20 here.. I am a poor responder- all 4 IUIs before that yielded the same- 3 follicles grew- low antral follicle count .. no matter how high medicine- I got the same response..
we were really at the point of saying we wanted better odds - iuis are almost like ivfs (we were paying out of pocket for medicine)- up to egg retrieval etc..- we agreed with our RE that we would not cancel if it was a low number since that's the pattern I had.. that we'd just try with whatever we got. We did a 3 day transfer. I went to Shady grove in annandale.. billing etc. was terrific with me as well.. but thank you- I do consider us very fortunate! I hope you post good news soon! |
