What have you bought that was a complete waste of money?

Great. Thanks. I'm going there this week to get my hair done. One additional question, which stylist(s) at that salon do you recommend.

Tempurpedic Mattress. It stinks. Literally. There's no airflow through the space floamy thingyness so it sleeps so hoooooot. You sweat like a pig. Even with a mattress pad the thing absorbs sweat like the sponge that it is and it stinks in the summer. Like a jockstrap full of shweddy ballz. $2000. Lifetime warranty. After this summer I'm putting out in the alley for big trash pick up. It's 3 years old. Fuuuuuuuuuu*k.

Please elaborate-why was this a waste of money. I was thinking of buying the SnugFit Travel system?

When I had my first DC last Fall I resisted buying:

diaper pail
separate changing table
fancy bedding for the baby

I have sometimes felt guilty about not getting him some of this stuff and doing it a little cheap .... now I am happy.

Because usually the strollers are really bulky and you don't use them after baby outgrows the infant seat. Just buy a Snap n Go for $50 that fits your infant seat and figure out what stroller you want once he/she is older and sitting up.

Thanks for that. We've been talking about adding Skylights to the bedrooms. Good to know.

We had skylights in our old townhouse and hated them. Too much light in the early morning. I LOVE my dark bedroom now; even bought black out shades.

Snack foods. It's all on my hips now.

The Elmo kiddie vacuum I just bought at Toys R Us was a waste of $9, it is as cheap as it cost. Wont roll on the floor.

The changing table we NEVER used. EVER.

The waffle iron. The blender. The hundreds of dvds we own.

The cheaper Maclaren. We should have gone one up and gotten a larger one.

The dinners eating out all the time. So much money wasted.

I love this post!
When I was pregnant with my first child, I insisted on a babymoon. We went to Jamaica- paid a high rate because it was a last minute trip. We flew Air Jamaica- never fly air jamaica it's the worst airline I've ever flown. It rained the whole time we were there and our resort sucked. Also we did not make lemonade out of lemons- we were at each other's throats the whole time. Whenever anything goes bad on any vacations since, we joke and say- it's not jamaica.
- My husband insisted on the most expensive crib at Babies-R-Us b/c of the safety features (even though my friend was willing to give away her child's complete nursery set). My son slept in our bed and the crib was the most expensive decorative furniture we've had. He does use it as a toddler bed- but it's a highly priced toddler bed.
- bottle drying rack and bottle warmer- hubby insisted. My sonl nursed and never took to any bottles.

Re: skylights - thanks for sharing! Was also going to install in our and kids bedrooms. Do you think if skylight is in bathroom next to bedroom, it will still be too loud to sleep when it rains?

My biggest waste of money - buing nice furniture to fit house we rented. Ended up giving it away as we moved to our own house and id did not fit the floorplan.

We have a skylight in the bathroom next to our bedroom and it is not loud at all when raining.
