What have you bought that was a complete waste of money?

Land's End snow suit for a 1 year old.

A $700 wood chipper that sits in our shed taking up room. Nice baby clothes (now I shop on CL and on consignment for my toddler). Ergo baby carrier. Cheap furniture from Hechcts I just sold on CL. A big black composter from Costco-no need for a composter, all you need is a place to put a pile.

Ditto on the Lands End snow suit for a 1 y/o.

Also, our entire set of nursery furniture. We bought a blond wood set from Babies R Us and the wood was so soft that the screw holes all stripped after only one move - plus it just was kind of ugly. Would have stuck with a bassinet and an inexpensive changing table if I knew what I know now.

Also would have invested in a Bugaboo rather than go through the two MacLaran strollers we've gone through so far.

The Skip-Hop diaper bag was a waste too - too heavy and holds less than it looks like it holds.

The last set of umbrella strollers, the children were 2 and 3 when we bought them, and they have only been used a hand full of times.

Bellini nursery furniture. What crap!!

Snow boats for my toddler last year. Worn for 15 minutes in 1 inch snowfall.

We should have a place where we all get together and trade snow boots! I have 3 gently (never) worn pairs.

Snow suits for 12-month-old twins. I bought them b/c our nanny suggested it. She said she would like to take the twins outside to play with snow on snowy days. Well, she never did! When it snowed, she complained about how cold it was outside and would just stay indoors with the twins instead!

Clothes that I bought out of impulse. Like a previous PP, I often would find clothes in my closet that still have price tags on them. What a WASTE of $$$.

Roomba - we only have one 5x8 rug and the roomba couldnt even find it - it wuld just keep hitting the couch!

I haven't noticed any difference since i started to go to cheaper dropin style haircut places and coloring my hair myself (i like the hair color better too!).

From the bottom of my heart - thank you for posting that! It so perfectly sums up my experience! Not only that, but the shampoo people that want to massage your head while you're getting it rinsed. GET OFF MY HEAD! Hair Cuttery is okay, but there are a lot of cheap drop in stylists and alot better hair products you can use yourself from Sally's. I probably put $10K into my hair over the last 8 years.

Putting skylights in our bedroom. It is incredibly loud during rainstorms and wakes us up!

Expensive stroller - we use our cheap Combi much, much more!
Baby sling - used comfortably for maybe 3 weeks and then it became a hassle
Baby shoes before she walked
Crib linens - never use the blanket and the bumper was up for only 5 mos.
Halo sleep sack
Diaper bag
Diaper genie - after 3 mos. it reeked!
Hannah Anderson clothing they may last a long time, but I hate looking at them year after year. Prefer more variety.
Any expensive, "cute" outfit - we have several that have never been used. Only really needed one.
Fancy camera - i only use the auto setting.
Breastfeeding paraphenelia - I went to formula in one week stuff was used so couln't return
baby swing, jumperoo and bouncer - ours hated them after 3 minutes of use
An excess of pricey maternity clothes - what a waste! I ended up wearing sweatpants most of the time and larger sized tops for work.
Elliptical machine - what was I thinking?

I realized that babies really don't need a whole lot of stuff! Baby companies sure know how to get us to spend money!!

Espresso Machine (given as a gift)
Dr. Brown's Bottles - Gerber Clearview @ $3.99 for 3 bottles are BPA free and much easier to clean!
Snowsuit for infant (Bundle me was more practical)

ditto on the gerber ones- all those parts of the dr browns and i don't think it did that much with that "special" parts for gas ! dc1 was on the bpa dr browns (thanks DOCTOR brown's- lousy firm)- for dc2 we pitched them all after the bpa scare and got gerber- dc2 doesn't burp more or less..

Don't even know where to start!

-I've been through so many strollers-finally bought the Maclaren Volo and Manhatten Dreamer Design jogger and love them both. Took the other 4 to a resale shop.
-An expensive rug from Pottery Barn that my toddler ruined because he pulled my coffee off the table. I was ill for a day.
-Expensive haircuts and colors-found a great stylist in Old Town-cuts/styles my hair for $28. Color my own hair.
-Snowsuit from LLBean-my toddler never wore the overalls. I did find a snowsuit for next year at a consignment store for $20-looks very similar to the wasted one.
-Baby clothes-I've gotten much much better!
-Expensive flower pots for the deck. Gave them away.

All I know is that I've wasted a lot of money on things I ended up disliking or not needing. I've gotten a hold of myself-and think before I buy.

Bassinett - DD went right into her crib after day 5 (more baby clutter...we'll send this up to the attic)

Adult Halloween costumes. Just threw out the ones from the past three years.

Man. I'm loving this spender's anonymous. If we can save just one expectant family from the black hole that is 1 year snowsuits, I consider this a success. We have multiples. So multiply my stupidity. We gave our UPS guy a hernia.

A co-sleeper AND a pack-n-play. I too blame hormones.
McLaren bouncy-crap-seats. Motors conked out. The retailer actually urged us to return them.
VW wagon. Can you say Recall of the Month club?
Any toy with a battery in it.
Rechargable batteries. none of which work with toys.
Every sling and carrier you can imagine. Always went back to good ol Baby Bjorn.
Crib bumper. Swaddling negated the use for that.
Pregnancy books.

Jimmy Choo lady - I hear you. I got Manolo suede boots. Sometimes I wear them around the house or carry them in a bag to a non-playground area. So I figure the "cost per wear" is actually about the same as some of my Payless sandals.
