Johns Hopkins releases profile of recent class that was admitted in 2025, big shifts post affirmative action

This. Particularly when standardized testing can be increased with very expensive prep that can be afforded by very wealthy students. No care in aptitude or potential, just the upper class ensuring they stay the upper class.

My white kid was rejected from Hopkins with a 1590 and a 4.0UW with top rigor. People overemphasize the weight of standardized test scores in T10 admissions.

Asians/Indians will quickly overtake whites as the majority on campus AND in the most prestigious grad school programs and professions.

You can further extrapolate the ripple effect when whites become the disadvantaged minority. I give it one decade before it’s very noticeable, and within two generations it will be what drives race wars. (Please don’t shoot the messenger; let’s have a civil discussion.)

OK MAGA.

Asia has more than 50% of the world population. And Asians are not a monolith. They make for 50 countries of the world.

So, "WHITES" need to get their act together and start studying hard like other people and compete with Asians. There is no AFFIRMATIVE ACTION for Whites and Asians.

If Whites are the most priviledged race in America then they better make themselves capable enough to compete fairly.
Otherwise don't call Trump Taco for reinstating H1B

Insane. There are not going to be race wars if whites are a disadvantaged minority, which isnt likely either.

I think “race war” is extreme. I think people are just going to move the goal posts. People are going to say the elite schools and the ivy’s don’t matter so their kids can still find their way into top jobs.

They will try but unless someone can make the argument that admission to the colleges are no longer a proxy for merit, this will not happen.

Do Americans actually want meritocracy? We say we do, but do we actually mean it?

Exactly. Do we really love the SAT, or do we only love it to the extent it seems to justify white supremacy? Because I suspect it’s the latter.

So they loved the SAT when it filtered out black applicants but stunned it down when it started following out white applicants?

If we went back to the SAT we had before dumbing down, colleges would be too Asian?

I am an Asian but I will be honest I despise grinding and dislike seeing robotic behaviors and thinking from any races. I don't think grinding hard is Asian only things, Asian are the biggest population in the
world so it gives that stereotype that Asians are all robots. No it is not.

Dude, nobody LIKES grinding. But repetition and practice is necessary to improve a skill.

While Asians don't have a monopoly on hard work, Asians on average study more hours than other groups. Much more. The average black student spend 36 minutes a day on homework, Hispanic students spend 50 minutes, white students spend 56 minutes, while Asian students spend 134 minutes a day... 2 hours and 14 minutes a day.... on homework. These are averages and they explain the differences in average academic performance.

You can’t do homework school hasn’t assigned- which isn’t much at all. Asian parents are giving their kids extra work and supplementing their academics at home. They parent very different from Hispanic and black parents. Even (most) white parents don’t supplement academics at home to the same extent as Asian parents do.

I would like to see college admissions be based on academic merit to a larger extent than they are now. If that leaves white Americans behind relative to Asians, we (I’m white) should try stepping up our game.

I would agree with cautious. Countries that admit students by grades only aren't necessary providing better opportunities to their youth. For STEM, academic merits are no brainer but I wouldn't take a person just grind very hard for good grades or cheat for good grades. There must be better ways to determine academic merits than just -tests!

Tests are the best measure we have. And peer reviewed research shows the results are valid

When that is the only measure though, massive cheating/gaming the system ensues.

A bit hard to cheat on SATs, and studying for the SATs is not "gaming the system". Do you think studying for the APs is " gaming the system"?

It is unfortunate we can do what OxBridge is doing - interview in person.

There is news related to disabled ratio in Stanford? Don't you get longer test taking time Thought that is how people game the system as well

Exactly nobody likes it, have you thought why there is a need to GRIND hard if you are truly intelligent? Is it true passion or parental push? Why do they all grind one thing only (math or anything that looks good on resume?)
Asian parents are known to be tiger parents. And that's the kind of trade off they pick without long term vision. Lot of grind or force to grind students - mentally lost or ill, burn out, go NC (no-contact) with their parents, some need therapy to compensate their lost childhood.

True outlier kind of intelligence is rare. Most people have to work hard. Why are the others not working hard. Because it is not easy to work hard. Its is easy to spend 30 minutes studying but spending more than 1.5 hours takes dedication and effort. I have two kids and despite the same parenting one goes above and beyond when it comes to school work. Spending hours perfecting a paper is good work ethic. My other kid just does not care as much.

As for kids going no contact, kids from many other races also go no contact. This is not restricted to Asians. Asian kids are not just dominating math, they are now also winning poetry and writing competitions. Stop with the Asian hate.

America has gotten as far as it has due to the entrepreneurial efforts of our citizens. As much as people dunk on the DEI, Affirmative action, blah blah era of elite admissions, these schools objectively have admitted students who dominate our economy.

The way people see elite admissions really only makes sense to me if you're an academic: the brightest need to be in academia to invent new ideas in a publication 4 other academics will read and occasionally give us back a return on our investment in their abstract research projects. A lot of these kids go into jobs that don't require the brightest minds, particularly consulting and IB, but they're great places to start a decent career. Frankly, when I think of the merit admissions crowd, I just imagine the most unsympathetic individuals who are controlling our institutions (Sam Altman, Peter Thiel, Joe Lonsdale, Alex Karp...). They don't actually have visions, just people they want "out" of the system. It's unnerving.

I don't think there is Asian hate. There are so many Indian CEO

I think it's insecurity I am not sure why. I am speaking as an Asian myself. I don't understand why some people need the college name to validate their life but that's their choices

You would have to upend the entire American education system. Oxford interviews work so well, because they have GCSEs and essentially spend two years studying intensely on their subject exams. Each state would have to make small colleges that are tuition free, so students have enough resources for their major.

I would consider those who achieve to contribute to the societies mean more than these extrinsic success just for getting into colleges

Exhibit A:

It will become increasingly difficult for all those kids to land a spot in med school—or get local internships during the school year—given the new competition.

honestly, any cutthroat atmosphere
comes about because asian students knew they were being held to a higher standard and have to beat out the other asian kids they are being compared to, as opposed to just belng in a general pool of applicants. It
Becomes an arms race within the asian community. And the reason why savvy asian parents are now avoiding heavily asian school districts. Hopefully the

Not to mention, once these kids get into college they simply drop poetry or instruments because their parents would never allow them to study liberal arts.... totally waste of their childhood to grind on instruments or whatever it took
