Asian parent here.
For some reason, feel a little depressed to learn this. Most of the Asian concentrated schools end up becoming cutthroat and. suffocating. (at least that's what I've seen in high school) not sure about colleges |
I think “race war” is extreme. I think people are just going to move the goal posts. People are going to say the elite schools and the ivy’s don’t matter so their kids can still find their way into top jobs. |
This shift is already underway. Why do you think the WSJ writes that annual article about northeastern kids going to the SEC? |
Exhibit A: It will become increasingly difficult for all those kids to land a spot in med school—or get local internships during the school year—given the new competition. |
I meant the situation (high concentration of any race) getting better.
I think in 2024 cycle somehow they took a much lower percentage of Asians (in the 30s), then in 2025 it bounced back a lot (over 40%). So they were making some efforts but then Harvard case came down, they lost some ways to do so effectively. Perhaps they find some more innovative way to do this this year. Just wondering. |
| Neo Liberalism caused this, we shouldn't be importing the best and the brightest from other countries |
| I wonder if this thread will be locked like the Duke thread, this forum doesn't like any talk about race |
This. Particularly when standardized testing can be increased with very expensive prep that can be afforded by very wealthy students. No care in aptitude or potential, just the upper class ensuring they stay the upper class. |
Why was the duke thread locked? |
I've been saying this for years. Totally agree. Although in my sector (finance), we're starting to see far more Asian leaders than ever. Not saying it's a bad thing at all. My mentor is a super smart, super savvy Asian woman. |
Because racism. |
|
a more equitable for college admission would be High School experience and success in your chosen major, and i would have you locked in the major
for instance, if you want to study economics at Harvard or any elite school, but can apply to any college, you need to show practical evidence of you applying economic principles in the field, same goes with business, if you want to get into Wharton, show evidence of you starting a successful business, this would ensure true meritocracy |
Asians aren’t one race, they are dozens of distinct identities. |
Exhibit B: The competitions for internship/entry level jobs are just as crazy. (CS or Finance jobs) |
“Yeah the Ivys produce great candidates but, LSU produces uh, well, more well rounded culture fits if you know what I mean.” give it a couple of years I already see it coming. |
