I’m old enough to remember when it was a democratic president that signed in the Violent Crime Control Act of 1994. Three strikes that lead us to some of the lowest rates of crime at the turn of the century. |
No. Crime rates are lower NOW. |
There were 70, 70! chances to prevent this. The prosecutor begged the judge to hold him after this guy’s last unprovoked attack on a woman. She did not. And another innocent woman paid the price. |
Lower does not = ok. Get back to us when you or one of your loved ones is shoved in front of a train, stabbed to death, or trying to live with burns over 60 % of your body. Mentally ill, violent individuals need to be locked up or in an institution or closely supervised group home. |
| We have to realize at this point that it's not just victimhood pushing people to commit such vile acts but also some people are just plain evil or psychopaths. We aren't dealing with them accordingly, so they continue feeling entitled to justice while committing horrific inhumane acts of plain evil violence for whatever reasons. If this becomes a frequent thing and psychopaths are treated with white glove service (mental health evals, more comfy prisons, etc) and become emboldened, what do you think regular citizens are going to do? They will start taking justice in their hands if things get worse and simply exterminating the perps in place when caught in action. It won't be pretty. |
I was responding to the previous comment suggesting we need to return to an earlier time when crime rates were lower, ignoring the reality that violent crime is lower now and trending down. But sure, go ahead and move those goalposts. |
NP. God you’re such a piece of shit. I’ve literally never voted for any Republican or libertarian or Trump aligned centrist Democrat, ever. But this is not a cute story. This woman is going to die or live a life wishing she were dead. It’s okay to talk about the realities of living in a society that has given up in all directions in terms of dealing with the small fraction of violent mentally ill people. |
No. People are permitted to care about multiple things at once. I’m a Mamdani-type Democratic always person who actually lives in NYC and takes public transportation. I’m a woman. The safety concerns I have for myself, for my husband - who had just left work when the Blackstone/NFL shooting happened in the lobby he had just walked out of - and for my DC are real. I can simultaneously decry the decimating, devastating consequences of destroying USAID, of the vaccination policies of RFKJrs HHS, all of it. My outgoing highly corrupt mayor came into office because of ranked choice voting but also due to legitimate safety concerns held by working class, MC, UMC people. It’s an important issue and doesn’t warrant patronizing comebacks. This young woman had her life ruined by someone who, in a better world, would have been under an involuntary hold for public safety. It’s a tragedy. It warrants compassionate and serious discussion. |
!1 Exactly right! |
He’s 50. |
Not really. Most crime stats are manipulated now so “nonviolent crimes” are not reported in the numbers. Theft for example Is actually on the rise compared to the 1990s thanks to the Internet and the ability to self checkout. That’s why many stores have items behind glass like CVS |
When charges are dropped because the person is mentally ill, then the next time police see someone engaging in a crime or someone wants to file a police report nothing is done. No report is made so it appears crime is lower. And if they are charged it is plead down or dropped due to mental health. Reed had been arrested 72 times. So how many convictions would you think that would be? Well if you guessed a minimal number, you would be correct. He only has 15 convictions. Take this case in February 2020. News reports state, "A 44-year-old man was arrested Friday after punching four women in the face, seemingly at random, near Harold Washington Library in the Loop...The man was punching the women at “random,” and may have struck between five and 10 of them, according to a preliminary report from Chicago police. They had bloody noses and other facial injuries" The article states 4 of the women had to go to the hospital. Additionally, he was arrested the week before for punching a man in the face unprovoked. And what happened after he struck between 5 and 10 women in the face, which required 4 women to go by ambulance to the hospital. Those felony charges were dropped. So they aren't listed in any crime report. But sure tell us all how crime has dropped and we all are so much safer from random violence. |
Do you really think the schizophrenic homeless men attacking these women in trains are just like, hypnotized by Nick Fuentes or something? |
These criminals need to be treated like the rabid pitbulls they are and be permanently removed from society. It’s not in the best interest of the majority of the population that wants a safe, civil society to keep these animals alive. The judges are worthless and need to be responsible for their incompetence as well. They did this as much as the criminal did it. They willingly let the rabid pitbull off the chain knowing what it’s capable of. |
You don't get it, do you? This isn't by accident. It's on purpose. You know....revolution...obligatory fist pump. What's a step in "the revolution"? Destabilize society. It's all in the playbook. READ IT. |
