That judge should be removed from office. She clearly doesn't care about the harm violent criminals and the severely mentally ill might inflict on innocent victims.

I don't believe this. This has been the idea conservatives have spouted basically since the inception of policing in this country. And never has this crime free utopia materialized. We just have more and more people behind bars, and for-profit prisons profiting. Violent crime is trending downward, yet you all remain afraid of your shadows. How about for once, we do something about the underlying problems?

Lower does not = ok. Get back to us when you or one of your loved ones is shoved in front of a train, stabbed to death, or trying to live with burns over 60 % of your body. Mentally ill, violent individuals need to be locked up or in an institution or closely supervised group home.

It's not lower. They just decided not to make half the crimes reportable and make many offenses reclassified to others, so they don't get reported.

That's what happens when you're stuck to an ideology and it fails, instead of using common sense.

The judges should be sued by the victims-- heck, big class action against them by the citizens since the judges are endangering the civilized population. Let's stay on topic, one thing at a time. An innocent woman was burned by a career criminal. The judge did this. Let's talk about this case. It's setting a rattlesnake loose in your home when we all well know the thing is going to kill someone in a matter of time. Do you want to negotiate with it or remove it from your house. The judge set a rattlesnake free in our collective home and it bit someone. The judge understood the nature of the rattlesnake. The judge was aware of how dangerous this guy was-- 72 arrests weren't enough to convey to her that she had a dangerous animal on her hands? She knowingly put him back on the street.

If he had been thrown away long before arrest number 72 this poor woman would not have burns over 60% of her body including her head. We can do both-- throw him away forever AND deal with the source. Short-term keeps people safe-- get him off the street before he hurts or kills someone else sitting on a train or leaving the supermarket or picking up their kid from school. Doing your daily Starbucks run. Going to the doctor. What day to day activity would you like to complete without a career criminal throwing gasoline on you and setting you on fire?
