BC vs Miami vs Wake

Sporty kids have different circles than nerdy kids at most colleges so no need to rank on this measure. Your main reason to attend a college is to learn, evolve and become employable.

Unless you are recruitable for professional leagues, sporty environment is not what you should make your number one priority.

For our child and family, we would pick BC.

I know Miami is hot right now.

BC's heyday was around 2008-2015. Its best days are behind it with no meaningful long-term plan to improve the school. Miami on the other hand....

Both are great schools. If you care about weather, let that be the deciding factor.

BC - smart and sporty
Miami - sporty and extroverted
Wake - extroverted and smart

Wake is not “smart.” So many kids get in early ED (before ED1) and have VERY average stats. It is a common hack at all local private schools. IYKYK

There is no such thing as early ED at Wake.

Apparently it’s sort of like double secret probation—only some people know about it.

NP. Wake releases ED results on a rolling basis for many of the ED apps that are submitted early, even before the ED1 deadline. Presumably that is what the other poster was referring to. It isn't a different round, but for those admitted so early, a nice way to avoid submitting other early apps.

And it gives you time to submit another RD1 application if you are rejected from WF. At our DC private, it is a common practice for a few lower half of the class kids to submit ED1 to Wake in August. They find out by the end of September and then you can still ED1 elsewhere if it doesn’t work out. Stats can be pretty low since they take tons test optional.

At our private, which is a feeder, you need a 3.7 for Wake. Not remotely for “bottom half.”

All,of these schools are test optional, as 95 percent of the rest of colleges.

You’re typing pretty well, given that your right hand probably got quite a workout during last night’s game.

Not Miami.

This will be the first cycle back for them. Current stats reflect test optional. Will be interesting to see how it works out for them.

Miami - sporty and extroverted
Wake - extroverted and smart

Smart kids don’t go to BC. They get into an Ivy or good nescac or ND.

WRONG! Miami is no longer test optional.

Is this supposed to be sexual?

It did get quite a workout. Did you clean up your face yet?

What in the world are you smoking?

I think it's pretty clear that BC is at least a step above Villanova. I don't know anybody other than Richmond parents who think that Wake Forest is a pair of Richmond.

Wake Forest is definitely not the best school in the state, but it is certainly on par with Carolina and Davidson.

Boston College is, as someone else pointed out, the toughest admit out of these three.

Everyone is welcome to an opinion, but this is a particularly poorly informed one.

What are you talking about? All of the acceptance rates are 15-20%

BC class of 2029 was 12.6%.

And Miami is 15-18%, basically the same. You do realize that minor differences in acceptance rates are meaningless?

No, it is not 15%. And, do you realize that 18% is 50% higher than 12%? That is not a “meaningless” difference to the 100 or more kids who get into Miami — and not BC. When DC is crying over a BC rejection, just tell them their feelings are meaningless.

100 kids is statistically insignificant when compared to all the kids applying to college
