College and University Discussion
| Which one is the best for sporty kids that are smart and extroverted? Emory seems too nerdy so it was removed from the list. |
| Wake has good combination. BC is Catholic with more conservative vibe. All roughly comparable in academic sense. |
| Miami esp if they want a rah-rah school. Just turn on ESPN right now. |
| Very different locations and weather. Miami has clubbing culture, Wake has Greek life but no real city nearby, BC has Boston. If you can visit them, do so, because there is bound to be a personal preference. |
| I’d ED to BC if it fits your vibe, the alumni network is stronger than Wake, with a stronger brand in the Northeast especially, great sports and a community service mentality (Jesuit), whereas Wake is just Greek. Miami is a step down from both in my eyes. |
Interesting. Do you have a cite? |
| These schools are very different. Have you visited? |
| If Catholic BC is a good choice. Otherwise Miami or Wake. |
Different locations. But they are all medium sized private schools with decent academics. Hopefully not too nerdy. |
| Wake or BC would both fit the bill. |
| Lot of money for second or third rate schools. If into weather and sports Wake or Miami. |
DP. What sort of cite are you looking for? I agree with the PP's take. The alumni network is very loyal and is larger simply because it is a larger school than Wake. I also agree that Miami isn't quite as highly regarded as either BC or Wake, but has strong alumni connections in the southeast. |
| Miami was very generous with merit for my kid. |
+1 OP is better off at a flagship than anything on this list |
BC conservative and Wake not? No way. BC is Jesuit and in MA — not woke but not remotely conservative. Left-leaning. BC is perfect for this kind of kid. Miami not in the same league academically. BC is the toughest admit. |
