What going on with Cracker Barrel ?

Black Rock controls about 16% of Cracker Barrel stock, and installed a new CEO that’s down with BR’s agenda of destroying anything seen as traditional Americana - like Cracker Barrel.

So the new CEO took the old white country store clerk character off the logo - to subtly communicate to the Cracker Barrel customer demographic (who tends to resemble the guy on the logo) that “we got rid of him and we’re getting rid of you next, because even though you spend money in our restaurants, we don’t like you and wish you weren’t here”.

And not surprisingly, their stock is off 12% now.

So weird, right? You attack your customers, and they have gall to get upset about it!

Just had Cracker Barrel yesterday while traveling on 81 north. Very good for the price. With other fast food so expensive great to get a cheap good meal. Meatloaf was 9.99 with mashed potatoes and green beans and gravey and corn bread

And there is lots of room to park my truck and airstream.

Love Cracker Barrel

Back in the real world, the chain was doing horribly, including a 40% stock decline, while attempting to project your beloved “traditional Americana” and this was an attempt to turn things around.

They were doing horribly because the food and service weren't the same. Lots of millennials like me had a tradition of Cracker Barrel for road trips and would have kept it up for nostalgia reasons with their own kids but the place is awful now. No basket of biscuits, painfully slow service and the food tastes frozen. I gave them a few chances and it wasn't worth the 60-90 minutes extra to our driving time anymore.

I've never been but from the pictures it looked cozy inside, and the new design seems more generic.

I don't go to McDonald's either, but their new building design/aesthetic is depressing. The cheerful design of the 80s was better.

I absolutely hate the new, gray minimalist mcdonalds. I'm guessing they are trying to get people in and out without lingering especially the old people who were infamous for setting up coffee klatches in the booths.
The ONLY reason I set foot in McDs is for the playground in bad weather, and they're removing those! Once my kids age out I'm done.

They changed their logo, like every company does from time to time.

After examining CRBL stock price, I can see that Covid gutted the stock years before this incident.

Cracker Barrel has never recovered from Covid.

I view the old man by the barrel as having died of Covid several years ago.

The logo change is an act of desperation to bring in a new crowd of people because the old crowd either died of Covid or never came back.

I would refrain from hating on the CEO. She is a last ditch effort to bring the plane out of a nosedive.

On a personal note, I refuse to eat at Cracker Barrel because of its LGBTQ Alliance. I am also still boycotting Target and JC Penneys for their open support of that ungodly garbage.

Would the CEO eat their chicken fried steak?

My guess is bo, so she's trying to remake the chain seeking a new clientele

Going forward the goal is for CB-Zone to pull in Gen Z and younger millennials. That's probably where the Z in Zone comes from.

What is edgy and modern about "zone"? On the highway, it's just where speeding fines are doubled.

I freely admit I’m not an MBA from an Ivy. You probably are. Or at least want me to think you are….

So here’s your opportunity to educate us all and show off what you gleaned chasing that Masters: how does turning a restaurant around happen when you do something that tells your remaining customers that you wish people that looked like them - the guy on the logo - that you’d sorta wish they’d just disappear like the guy on the logo?

What’s the turn around strategy there?

Is this like “we had to destroy the restaurant to save the restaurant” ?

If your remaining customers will all be dead in 5-10 years then you better stop caring what they think at all because once again they will be DEAD.

Are you a bot or a child? Because you’re posting this all over the forum and it’s dumb.

The CEO is a vulture capitalist hatchet woman installed to part this company and its real estate out. Y’all are some naive suckers if you believe any of the parasites who own most of this company’s stock give a flying f** about “saving” it.
