1. Everyone who works in cannabis cultivation has to be at least 21.

2. Cannabis cultivation workers are NOT considered agricultural workers. From CA state website:

Q. Are employees in cannabis cultivation considered agricultural workers falling under IWC Wage Order 14?

A. No. Although employees in cannabis cultivation are working in defined agricultural occupations for an agricultural employer, the Medicinal and Adult-Use Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act (“MAUCRSA”) specifically provides that those employees are subject to IWC Wage Order 4-2001, not IWC Wage Order 14-2001 governing agricultural occupations. [California Business & Professions Code §26065]. As such, employees engaged in the cultivation of cannabis are entitled to overtime pay for hours worked in excess of eight in any workday or more than 40 hours in any workweek. (Agricultural employees are entitled to overtime after 10 hours in any workday, or more than 6 days in a workweek.) Employees engaged in the cultivation of cannabis are also entitled to double their regular rate of pay for hours worked in excess of twelve in any workday and for all hours worked in excess of eight on the seventh consecutive day of work in a workweek. Employees engaged in the cultivation of cannabis are entitled to applicable meal periods and rest periods and may recover one hour of pay at the regular rate of pay for each workday that the meal period or rest period was not provided.

3. Since marijuana is NOT legal under federal law, any non-citizen who is working on a cannabis farm is potentially putting their ability to become a citizen in jeopardy.

Exactly. Thanks to Trump and Biden's reckless immigration policies, we have undocumented children caught up in a situation where they are targets of Federal Law Enforcement officers while illegally working at a pot farm. This what you people voted for. Slow clap.

Just a quick reminder for people that share trumps dementia, Biden had a bipartisan immigration plan that Trump killed through his Republican yes men, even though he wasn’t president.

Trump is never going to participate in meaningful immigration reform. That would chip away at his key issue--demonizing migrants. If he did, he would just be left with demonizing trans people and that may not be enough to keep his followers in line.

Meaningful and helpful immigration reform legislation that prioritizes making it easier for economic workers to come here legally to work is the job of Congress. Trump and Biden have done nothing but make a long standing problem much worse while Congress has literally done nothing to address the root cause of the southern border/immigration issue.

Were these people being paid minimum wage?

People also need to remember that it’s summer - these kids will come to work with their parents when school is out. They may or may not be working. These people can’t afford summer day camp.

I thought the Democrats in this thread were telling us that it’s perfectly fine that there were 14-year-old children working on the cannabis farm?

Chaotic images of illegal alien roundups at farms are necessary because they go around the world and disincentivize people who might be thinking of coming illegally. And it encourages self-deportation.

When you have 30-50 million illegals you don’t have a choice.

If the damage of preceding administrations - who sold out the American people to drive down wages - can be undone, we could go back to an orderly process that looks a lot better on television. But the blame for what’s going on now doesn’t fall on Trump and his people. Falls on Biden, Bush etc.

The pain of the solution is directly proportional to the amount of time the problem has been ignored. This could have been a much easier process back in, say, 1998 or even 2005 but at this point so much damage has to be reversed that the less drastic solutions are gone.

That bill should have been passed but it was 2 to 3 years behind when Biden lifted all band-aid laws that were in place and that bill didn't come close to addressing the root of the problem. Any immigration related legislation needs to prioritize making it easier for economic migrants to come here legally to work. That bill prioritized band-aid duct tape measures for border security and dealing with asylum cases. 95% of the migrants arriving at our southern border are economic migrants seeking work, opportunity, and a better life. Give them that opportunity through a legal path where they are vetted and sponsored by employers before they arrive on our soil so that idiot bullies like Trump can't prey on people who we need a lot more than we need him.

Your figure of 30 to 50 million illegals is a lie. Credible estimates range from 11 to 18.6 million, with most sources citing around 11-12 million.

What “more drastic” solutions do you have in mind? Sounds like all options are on the table for you.

It is ILLEGAL for anyone under 21 to be on a cannabis farm. There is no sneaking in to a cannabis farm since an astonishing amount of money is spent in security on any cannabis farm.

I don't think it is right to raid farms at all for ICE, but there needs to be raids to make sure there are no underage workers.

The other tragedy is that the farm that there are mulitiple odor complains around cannibis farms. The other Glass House farm that was raided is in Carpinteria which is just south of Santa Barbara. You drive through the city and you can often smell a skunky smell.

One article explains, "Since early 2016, county records show, [Carpinteria] valley residents have submitted more than 3,900 odor complaints with Planning & Development regarding the smell of pot and the “laundromat” smell of the misting systems. But there has been no way to determine which “grow” was to blame. Despite the prevalence of the misting systems, the smell of pot lingers in hot spots around the valley, including La Mirada, Padaro Lane, the Polo Condos, the Cate School campus, and along Foothill Road. This year to date, Carpinterians have filed 253 odor complaints with the county, down dramatically from 1,200 complaints in 2021. But some residents say they no longer bother to fill out the forms.

“As a resident of Carpinteria, and having had to smell cannabis almost every day for seven years, I implore you to get this amendment correct,” Merrily Peebles wrote to the commission, attaching copies of her many complaints from the foothill neighborhood of La Mirada Drive.

“Carpinteria has become a disadvantaged community,” Peebles said. “We put up with odor that causes possible physical aliments such as asthma, limits our ability to socialize outdoors or keep our windows open, and decreases our property value…. I have mostly stopped reporting this year, as it seems useless.”

They did the work and the farmer(major maga supporter) called ICE so he did not have to paid anyone. It is a common practice with republicans.

So you are saying ICE raided a California cannabis farm because the farm was break a local law???? That’s a California law not a federal law. How is ICE enforcing local California law? Weird? Is ICE going to arrest people and seize their cars if there is an expired parking meter?

Ann Coulter has some citations. However, other immigration restriction sites use numbers like 12-19 million.
