Birthright Citizenship

If you can take birth rights away from a first generation person you certainly can take it away from an 8th generation person.

Once you cross the Rubicon of taking birth rights away there is nothing stopping republicans from stripping birth rights from any US citizen.

It will not be retroactive. And once it goes through, if and however that may be, it will not be retroactive.

There are several European and UK case precedents of devices countries seating citizenship by birth this way and it was fine. They set a near date and then going FW from that date it ceases. Your kid gets the citizenship of their father and mother, and can apply for U.S. citizenship later.

A constitutional amendment is harder than you are wishing. Sorry hon.

Seems so impractical.
I just went to look at my birth certificate, which is not where I thought it should be, wanted to see what it showed regarding my parents. May show where they were born. But if it does and the parents are foreign born, that doesn't tell you if they are citizens now. This is completely aside from the fact that paternity is often in doubt (and how do you get DNA if the father is nowhere to be found?).
SS numbers have been issued at birth for years (this was to prevent a formerly common form of identity theft where you would find a grave of a child and get a SSN using their name and DOB). So what happens with that? IOs the child just in limbo until all paperwork is filed? Can Trump deport a newborn now?

I'm not sure how a decision could be written that would limit such injunctions to executive orders that were as blatantly unconstitutional as this one (and the question about babies born to foreigners was asked and answered back when the question was debated in Congress). You cannot say that the amendment does not count because we did not have restrictions on immigration such as exist now (I imagine if a ship manifest listed a notorious person in the 1870s he might not be let in at the harbor), because if conditions have changed Congress is perfectly free to pursue an amendment.

Funny how these people consider themselves originalists. But all I can say is it is not the win Trump believes it is.

On a side note, he's pissed at Canada which is now imposing a tariff on digital services. I'm applauding (I'd wondered how those sorts of things worked in the world of tariffs).

Won’t the pregnant illegal aliens / tourists who join the class just get deported before giving birth?

I imagine the class is parents of children already born being denied citizenship.

Won’t they then deport the parents? The birth tourists will never get another visa. Class members lose anonymity.

Also, glad that birthright citizenship may be gone too. There have been a lot of anchor babies and birth tourisms. Hope this helps cut down illegal immigration

Let's start with Don Jr, Eric, Ivanka and Barron

They are US citizens, even if birthright citizenship get removed because their father is a U.S. citizen. I thought you people were supposed to be smart.

Yes, round up all those pregnant illegals, tourists and foreign students and file those lawsuits demanding citizenship and benies for their anchor babies.
Their big back door America plans are on the line.

Yesh!

I’ll take two of them for every lazy maga dimwit we can trade. I’d probably have to sweeten the deal for their home countries, though. Three magas and all they can eat horse paste in trade for one respectable immigrant.

These illegal mothers do not work - they have anchor babies. Just stop by Charles Barrett Elementary or Cora Kelly at school drop off or at pick up. These women are in pajamas. One west side Alexandria elementary school has 702 students and only 7 signed up for on site after school care (which costs $150 for the whole year if on free lunch).

^^ How much can 1 anchor baby get you per month? I know once school age, they get free breakfast, lunch and possibly a take home box. What else?

They get WIC. Housing through the shelter and feeding grants. Qualify for cash welfare payments through their citizen children.

And snap payments each month for food shopping. Sign your kid up once you get their full birth certificate and SSN. No questions asked. Just put down no income. There are forms in Spanish and 20 other languages plus translators at SSA offices to help.
