| College recruiting is only as good as recruiting coordinator at the club. Union, ASA, and Bethesda still lead that position. |
no its not. Loudoun 2nd team did not offer all girls a GA spot. And many 3rd teams girls did not get a shot. VRSC picked up a few for GA. Fact |
By filling GA team with RL players (due to parents politics), MYS has made the mistake of their life and they will pay dearly next season. NVA and possibly SYC are the teams to watch in this area in GA. GA is not RL and MYS will find out the hard way soon. |

I don't understand why people (mostly ECNL parents) try to compare ECRL with GA.
- GA is always a clubs top team and first choice players. - ECRL is always a clubs second team and second choice players. If the funnel of youngers to olders talent is the same amount, coaching is the same, and you exclude poaching talent from other clubs GA will always be better than ECRL. The only time an ECRL club might compare to some level of GA club is when the club doesn't have ECNL and RL is the highest level. Even then most clubs with only RL will have their top players poached away. |
Completely agree, with the caveat that some new GA clubs have / will lost their top team players to ECNL clubs and so those GA teams have more second team players that ordinarily would be the case. Think older girls at SYC who went to Union during the former MYS / SYC partnership and younger girls at MYS who will go to Union (like the entire 2013 green squad), or older girls at NVA who are going to ECNL clubs next year because ECNL still has a better college platform than GA. |
Didnt know colleges were looking at 12 year olds. Thanks for sharing |
Colleges admissions people also don’t look at 12 year olds but that doesn’t mean 12 year olds aren’t thinking ahead to college and making decisions they think support their admissions goals. But you knew that. |
They aren't but you can be sure coaches at events are definitely looking at parents of kids they MAY be interested in from a talent standpoint. If the kid, OR THEIR PARENTS , come across as a real jerk, most coaches will take a hard pass. They don't the families baggage at their program. |
This might happen once or twice but clubs will get control of the defections over time as long as GA continues to do well. I don’t understand the parents who drive all kinds of extra time to join a marginally better team or league. When overall no teams in the area are competitive at the national level. Save your money and time. Play local and have fun. |
Depends on the club...some clubs tolerate more than others as long as they are getting the W |
Not club, colleges watch the parents of the kids in which they have an interest. |
Do you think colleges don't ask the club coaches these questions about the parents? When they have many qualified kids that have interest in program I am sure they ask this. So if you are that parent, dont let it come back to bite your kid due to you being the problem. |
I am parent who is going through the process. Let your son or daughter, after a game sass talk you or disrespect their teammates and see how much longer the college is interested in them. Carry the kid's bag after the game and again, that works against the kid. And more to the point for a lot of people here, act out in a disrespectful way towards, the players, coaches, and officials while watching your kid play and the coach likely will find someone comparable to be interested in who's mom or dad isn't a troublemaker. Some of you will disagree. It doesn't bother me. I know what I am talking about here. |
This isn’t accurate. For 2010s, the following RL teams will beat area GA teams. - Strikers - VA United - Reign - Arlington RL - Vienna - VSA, Loudoun, and GFR would also be competitive. And those are just the VA teams. If I start adding other states (ie the NC RL teams) it gets worse. I don’t see Loudoun and MYS flipping to GA as materially changing that, except to dilute the GA player pool a little. |

I agree with the above.
Also correct me if I’m wrong but after glancing at the showcase age brackets for Jefferson cup, it seems like aside from the first group (which are predominantly ECNL), there are just as many RL teams as GA. I realize this is just one tournament but IME it really depends on the individual team… Of course this may change in the future, but this is my take for now….. |
