I'm not sure what the end goal is here, maybe it's just a form of venting and they dont mean it but frankly it comes off deranged. I dont think the average American feels the same kind of deep seated animosity towards Canadians (or any particular country, for that matter). Has anyone seen this?

They are either paid to do that, or else are mentally unstable people ranting online, which is par for the net.
Average Canadian doesn't even know or care about tariffs.

I'm Canadian. Tarrifs are a huge topic of conversation. Everyone knows about them.

For you. Most people don't obsess about politics.

Are you a Canadian living in Canada? Most people are focused on politics right now. Trump has made it impossible not to.

Any Canadian who has gone shopping in the past month knows about tariffs.

This is like the plot to Canadian Bacon.

Half of what he says can't be taken seriously, just like when he wanted to buy Greenland and rename the Gulf of Mexico. He backs down if people actually call him on his BS. Both Trump and Musk seem de-lu-lu with crazy ideas and they are feeding off of each other.

So, wise one, perhaps you can enlighten us as to exactly WHICH “half of what he says” can be taken seriously — and which half can’t. Thanks Much! Um, you DO know that Trump and his pet Google are calling the Gulf of Mexico something else now, right?

Well, at least a third of Americans ARE “evil and in agreement with Trump”. You have the Trump voters, the Congresspeople who vote in lockstep with Trump, the portion of the judiciary who are Trump supporters, Trump’s Cabinet, and an unknown percentage of the military. Canadians are “very smart” and very prudent to be wary of all of these people. And good for them that they listen when they are warned about the realities of the current Trump administration.

There is, indeed, a large group of people who “are not very smart” in play here — but they’re not Canadian, and have earned the hatred.

I think a lot of people in Canada are boycotting US goods.

My Canadian family knows we all hate Trump as much as they do. They've told us we can come stay with them if the US goes full Gilead.

Yes! I actually live abroad (Europe) and it's quite common for me to hear from people how much they love America when I say where I'm from. Of course I also get a good bit of ranting about Trump, people who sometimes dont like America, whatever. I think a bit of polarization is to be expected, but for sure you get plenty of really positive remarks when you say youre American. And I spent a good amount of time in various Eastern Asian countries- it's extremely common there to hear rhapsodizing praise about Americans.

But I mean, some haters are to be expected. It just seems like the Canadians are on another level and are just frothing at the mouth. I find it strange.

You must stick to the tourist areas. Europeans hate Americans. Maybe one day you will wake up to what you Trumpers have done.

OP sounds like a milspouse with very little awareness of the world. Perhaps Army stationed in Germany and Korea before that?

I remember as a teen (many years ago) being in Canada, on vacation, one summer. We happened to stop by a Canadian visitor center on July 4, and I still remember how surprised I was that they had a birthday cake for America and they were giving out free slices to celebrate with us. That day means nothing to them, but knowing how important it is to us, they have offered that kind gesture of friendship.

Longtime friends and allies, the bonds between our countries are deep. They’ve been one of our best trading partners. Not to mention, after we were attacked on 9/11, they sent their forces to fight with us in Afghanistan. 159 Canadians died fighting our war, and over 2,000 were wounded.

Now, not only have we launched a trade war against them, showed we are not a trustworthy ally, and abandoned our mutual values of defending freedom, but we’re talking about annexing them as a 51st state.

I don’t blame them for being furious with our government. I’m furious with our government on their behalf. I saw this video clip of Trudeau today, explaining why Canadians are booing our national anthem. He made a point of saying that Canadians don’t hate the American people, nor do they hate American sports teams, but they are
hurt and angry by our policies.

This is the most simple minded comment. No, Canadians have not formed opinions about Americans based on one speech by Mark Carney.

Trumpers don't realize that everyone else isn't that dumb or gullible. Their new schtick is trying to call everyone else ill informed. It's absurd.

I’ve never used TikTok. I’m middle aged.

They don’t hate all Americans, just the MAGA crowd and Trump and his team.

I know for a fact that Canadian companies with fixed assets in the United States are actively seeking protections to prevent EXPROPRIATION of their assets. I think there is a non-zero chance that the US also attempts to seize natural resource assets within Canada, as in start a physical land war. This is absolute insanity.

Canadians have a very reasonable right to despise every American right now. This isn't like "oh we feel bad because 2% of federal workers are losing their jobs". This is the first and most outward step in an entire destabilization in the Post WWII global order. And US citizens are just shrugging and think it's trump-being-trump on twitter.

Exactly! Now is not the time to feel sorry for ourselves as Americans and call Canadians who are scared for a very good reason "deranged." It's a time to call your reps, protest, speak out against the Trump regime doing what was unthinkable just a few short months ago.

Trump already called Canada the “51 state,” which means he is going to invade Canada with our military!

As a mother of a 16 year old boy, I am very scared that this lunatic is going to institute a draft to fight with one of our biggest allies.

I’m 100% certain your male child is totally unsuitable and incapable of military service, so if I were you, I wouldn’t be worried at all.

I'm sorry you are married to a meat head husband, but insulting a 16 year old child is really beyond the pale. People like you who act like the military is some prestigious place are so tired. And I write this from an overseas base with a whole range of people from enlightened to idiotic military members. Check yourself.

Have you been living under a rock? Trump is treating Canada like an enemy. They're angry! Of course some Canadians are going to hate on the average American; people don't understand nuance and half the country voted for him! I'm sure there are lots of people in the U.S. who support this because he says to.
