SYC

In each case they've gone above and beyond to foster communication among the parents, the coaches, and the club. I have not seen a team manager try to curry favor with the coach or the club (their kids have all been legit starters). I appreciate all the work they do.

This is satire, right?

I agree with the original poster. I did the team manager thing the first year my child played soccer at 7 years old. Oh, I don't want my worst enemy to be tasked with duties of the team manager. I'm grateful that we have parents who want to or volunteer to do it, so I don't have to do it. Try it for a year, then complain about your team manager. I know I won't.

Being a manager is probably worse in this area relative to other parts of the country due to demographics. We have a very high concentration of midwit managerial class type folks that are a pain in the ass.

Thought SYC is bad, come over to NVA all politics here.

This is not directed to SYC--it's just a 'general' about the team manager stuff getting thrown about.

Who is communicating via team manager??? If my kid is injured, I email the coach. If we have a conflict, I email the coach. WTF- would I bother with a middle man?

I got sucked into manager one year when my kid was new to a team and nobody else would step up. It is a thankless job. But, the team was very, very appreciative--parents gave me a big gift at the end of year. That said, I never talked to the coach about players or playing time or gossip or 'my thoughts'. I was there solely to communicate game times, help get head count confirmation (ppl notorious bad about rsvping), and any other logistical stuff.

I have, of course, seen the abuse of power in many clubs we have been a part of where the role was taken solely for personal interest and they are in the coach's ear constantly. That said, I still would never want the job again so they can have at it . I'm not going to get upset about it. It is what it is. This stuff happens everywhere, even at the HS and college level...and from what I've heard the National team level.

Low level team, huh? Many first teams don't allow this, especially with the much older coaches who have been around for decades. You HAVE to go through the team manager you can just walk up to the coach or call them. Have a nice weekend.

Not true at all. We’ve seen our fair share of clubs and never once were we told to go to a team manager first. In fact, some teams haven’t even had a team manager
