Then again, I’m one of those mothers who gives her teen daughters vibrators.

lol this sounds like a excellent x rated movie plot all around

In the prairie days women didn't have a way to decline.

My wife and I are ttc after multiple miscarriages… after our morning session I just stumbled on this post and am actually able to laugh lol

Ah yes the prairie days when half of your dozen children might just die from fevers. Needed to keep pumping them out!

Yeah with kids that age it’s tricky. They stay up as late as you possibly, especially at 12, and they are still home most of the time. If you have small upstairs as well and the kids are used to a pretty open door policy with mom and dad, there’s just only so much you can do to fix this. Sometimes you are better off just laughing about these things. It’s a season in life.

I remember when I and my siblings were small my parents would tell us on Saturday mornings not to knock on their bedroom door as that is the day they wanted to sleep in. We 3 kids ate cereal and watched cartoons so were none the wiser. We had no idea about sex anyway.

OP, Can you use the basement as your bedroom? I know plenty of couples with kids who do this.

Importantly, why don't you mind that you are not having sex with your husband?

My paternal grandparents must have had some kind of scheme because they managed to have 5 kids while living in a 1-bedroom apt. for many many years. Mom and girls in the bedroom while dad and boys were in the living room.

You don’t have sex for six weeks at a time?!

I think this is a lot more common than you think but no one talks about it because people like you will act like it's shameful.

DH and I are more frequent than that (more like twice a month) but have had a number of dry spells of around 6 weeks and they increase as we get older because they are often due to medical issues and those increase as we get older. Like I fell playing tennis a few months ago and had a bruised tailbone and just didn't want to do it until pain was gone. DH had a series of oral surgeries last year to fix a broken tooth and even though it was just his mouth he was on pain meds for it and it was also mentally taxing and he just wanted to go to bed early for a while. And so on.

Once you hit about 45 I have found that frequency falls off a lot. I guess libido waning too. It's still there but the idea of going without sex for 6 weeks doesn't sound like a big deal at all to me at this point whereas when I was in my 30s it would have been a problem.

That’s sad! I’m 67 and we are good for once a week or more. However, it’s now been a good two weeks and this morning we both agreed that tonight’s the night. I really like knowing well before so that positive thought both helps my day and gets me in the mood. After almost 40 years when I’m in the mood we really enjoy ourselves.

Another thing people do that is no longer an option for you is only have as many kids as allows you to still have a reasonable amount of privacy in your home. You filled up your house with people and now that those people are older you're like "wait I have no privacy." Well some of us thought about that before having another kid. Sorry.

Hahaaaa pretending that you chose not to have more kids in order to preserve your privacy and sex life - sure Jan.

Not sure about that, Feb.

Mt bestie said she did that in college. It was weird but she said she was glad her parents were still doing it.

I'm one of four kids. My parents told us not to disturb adult nap times unless the house was on fire. We would just play outside.

I can't believe I am thinking about this but I just figured it out. My grandmother was a SAHM and my grandfather worked split shifts. I guess they were noon-ers.

A door lock isn’t that hard to install. You could do it by following the instructions or watching a YT video.

On the prairie / on the farm kids knew early on how the young were conceived and born. DH loves re-telling his grandfather's stories of seeing the animals mate, then helping the animals who were having trouble birth-ing. He would pull out the calves, etc from their mothers. The grandfather said he knew early on if his momma would be having another baby soon. Those farm / prairie houses were tiny with no soundproofing.

People weren't so precious about these things back then.
