Resorts/Hotels your own kids LOVED

I would love to hear the ages your kids were when they loved these places! What a 3 year old and 13 year old will like is very different!

We had a memorable stay here one freezing cold January when my husband was out of town and our heat went ou. My 2 kids and I rented the suite, ordered room service, swam in the pool, sat by the fireplace watching movies and visited the children’s science museum across the street. It’s one of our favorite impromptu weekends!

My kids loved the Greenbrier because they liked riding the shuttle around the resort (this was from ages 0-10 or so, at which point we stopped going)

My daughter, recently turned 9 at the time, loved the Chesapeake Hyatt. I used Hyatt points so it was a win win situation.

Fly into Jacksonville, a very nice airport that's usually affordable.
Get a family suite with bunkbeds:

Visit Alligator place near by during birding season. See awesome birds up close!

Kids went first time when it first opened before covid and were very young. Went last year so they were 11 and 14. They like the "free" happy hour, the games by the pool, the beach, the yard games, the fact that we let them run around b/c about 50 other kids were running around. They loved the dude who makes the omelettes. And alligator place has a zip line/ ropes course ABOVE THE ALLIGATORS! I did it at 49? Very cool.

Ha, my kids are the same way! They love a Hampton Inn (or similar) with buffet breakfast and indoor pool.

We went to Disneyland for spring break last year. And we stayed at the Grand Californian- with multiple pools, a waterslide, and a brunch buffet with Mickey and co.

The one thing that my children still talk about from that trip? "That hotel that gave us free cookies."

It was the $110/night DoubleTree across the street from LAX. We were there for about 12 hours. It was a place to sleep before our flight home in the morning (didn't feel like fighting rush hour traffic from Anaheim the morning of.)

Sigh...

We took our kids to Aulani in Hawaii when they were about 6 years old. When we got back, DS1's kinder teacher asked him what the best part was--was it the pools, water slides, Disney characters, the beautiful mountains, swimming in the ocean, fun activities we did, etc.? Nope, he said it was getting to play Plants vs. Zombies in the kids club.

Totally reasonably priced with lots of activities that were included or really affordable. It borders Rocky National Park in Colorado set on 860 acres. We went fly fishing, indoor and outdoor rock climbing/high ropes adventure, played tennis, hiked, etc.

I would love it if other people listed places that were under $300 a night.

The Fairfield Inn in Pacifica used to be an incredible deal. Right on the beach, easy to get to SF or Half Moon Bay, under $200/night. Sadly every hotel now seems to be above $300/night unless it's a down time or an area you don't want to stay in. Even roadside hotels near holidays are well over $200/night.

Anonymous wrote:Surprised that no one mentioned Legoland hotel (we went to the San Diego one). Granted it was almost ten years ago but from all the hotels we have stayed when kids were little that was the most kid-oriented one with funny touches: disco dancing in the elevator, a new Lego toy every day for the kids from housekeeping, bunk beds with Lego movies on individual screens, etc. And Legoland outside the front door.

Yes! Legoland Hotel in Germany was a hit. As was the Asterix hotel outside Paris (need a cheaper fun alternative to Disney Paris? That's it!) I don't think either had a pool though. Did not stay at the Legoland Hotel in NY but the park was a hit.

Club med in cancun. Parents loved the all day kids camp even for littlest kids. Three young kids loves getting ice cream at every meal

We recently did a long weekend at the Biltmore in Coral Gables / Miami while visiting in laws/grandparents nearby. Swimming pool is literally about the size of a football field. Tennis lessons offered too and there’s a golf course for the grownups, if that is your thing. We thought it would be a little stuffy but the kids loved it, and within driving distance of beaches etc.

My kids loved the Legoland Hotel in Florida when they were 4 and 6. Great Wolf Lodge when they were a bit older - maybe in the 8-12 range.
