Your kids can't walk on sidewalks with some slippery spots? Really?

You guys are so out of touch. You need to spend a winter in update New York or Minnesota.

For real- I wouldn’t have gone to school all winter in they had closed for every day with slippery sidewalks….

This is not NY or MN. It's different when the conditions happen all the time vs almost never.

It's stupid to pay the cost to prepare and handle a rare event when you can just stay home instead.

Surely if you are such an Ubermensch that you can manage any kind of weather, you can handle a few days of homeschool?

If it’s now persistent ice it’s because they failed to remove it yesterday and froze overnight. We walked up to our ES yesterday and it was plowed to the pavement.

Our ES was not plowed at all as of 5pm yesterday. I was shocked when they announced a delay last night

We don’t live in NY or Minnesota which is why we’re in this predicament right now. Snow is rare. The county wasn’t prepared. How is this hard for you to understand?

Excuses excuses. Go outside today and practice walking on sone slippery thoughts so you’re better prepared next time. You’ve got a whole day to practice now!

I made the learning loss comment. It was sarcasm. Satire aimed at angry Karens who lost their minds over school closures for COVID but now anxiously and eagerly anticipate snow days.

Not teachers! And no subs to cover for them

Damnit it’s clear. Get these kids back in school. The learning loss is scandalous.

Essentially missing this entire week due to snow related closures is not scandalous.

Especially if they go to school tomorrow, I wouldn't be suprised if they prepare the kids for virtual learning Friday. Will you complain about that too?

They better not. Virtual is just a loophole to have yet another day without meaningful instruction.

Good thing you don’t live in PG county. They have asynchronous days built into the school calendar that count towards the 180 days. Stop whining. Chances are, you don’t give a damn about learning loss, you care about childcare. Tale as old as time.

DP but my kids are slightly older and I work from home so nope. Some of us actually care about education, imagine that. I’m sorry it’s not high priority for you.

PG county is actually open today so no asynchronous learning for them.

Do you even know how to read? The asynchronous days have nothing to do with snow days. They are random days built into the school calendar. This isn’t done as a contingency plan, they have nothing to do with weather, they are planned days. Of course I care about education. I’m also not stupid enough to think 2 days off mean the world is ending.

If you aren't in a elected position, just ignore the idiots. Unlike the snow, the idiotry comes every day, so leadership is quite accustomed to it.

The school system is larger your geographic area.

Read?

Again, the roads are fine. Why close schools? They can plenty of time to clear sidewalks around the schools.

You clearly haven’t been on my street. Afraid to drive up any of the icy hills needed to get to the clear roads. I’m in 20906 so not even in the areas of the county that got 5” of snow.

Also, they didn’t say where they were having difficulties removing ice. Ice on the busses? And did all of them start in the cold this morning?

DCUM is a weird world where everyone's kids are 99th percentile except on snow days when they're all barely literate morons who will be desperately harmed by a day off.

Calm down! Your kids will be fine. Make them watch a National Geographic documentary today.

Better yet have them read a book.

DCUM…proving once again, MoCo parents are truly insufferable. I feel so bad for teachers that have to deal with this on a daily basis.

So tired of “when I was growing up….” “Black ice? Wusses!” “LeArNiNg LoSs” if you’re a parent, safety should be your priority. Apparently it’s not for the majority of posters here.

It’s the end of the semester so all this week would have been is make ups of last week’s MAP testing and pulling teeth to get kids to complete missing work before grades are due. Little new learning is happening this time of year because of the pressure being placed solely on teachers to get kids to score higher on standardized tests and turn in all work to get inflated grades to make the schools look good.
