Why doesn't he have a winter jacket?

Few people who live in central MD have a winter jacket suitable for standing outside for 30 min in 19 deg F. If you buy a Canada Goose, you’ll be mugged.

This is a new one. So we need to close schools any time a bus rider or walker would need to wear a winter jacket? Goose down or bust, apparently? People down-county keep finding more and more things to be snooty about.

Of for FfS you don't wait for a bus for 30 my. If your teenager won't wear a coat that's on him

But what if they feel cold? Won't that be awful? Won't someone please think of the children!

Yep. Absurd.

I'm not sure if it's the DMV in general or particularly Dcum, but so many people here are wildly out of touch.

Do you think everyone in Minnesota has an $800 winter coat? So, particularly when it comes to kids, they generally have $100 ski jackets. What you wear under the jacket is just as important as the jacket. A basic winter coat with a long sleeve tshirt and sweatshirt would absolutely be suitable through the teens.

Will you be toasty warm? Perhaps not, but it is certainly not going to be dangerous. Cold weather is much easier to deal with than heavy rain.

Those posts crack me up. I grew up in New England. 19 degrees at the bus stop is just called 'winter.'

You play outside in that weather still

No, it's morelike Fox News gets a lot of mileage from mocking liberal public school systems, they probably even have some people on the payroll scraping barrels to find stories like this one.

Guess you missed all of 2020-21 when Jennifer Reesman, Dawn Iannaco-Hahn, and Margery Smelkinson constantly called Fox 5. I was an intern then and it was absurd. It was a near daily basis event. Everyone was so sick of them.

I bet they were paid. Didn't know their names... but I'm sure they were here too, whining about how they had to see smiles and how their twins couldn't talk because their nannies were allowed to mask.

Lol, you guys are just as bad as the nutty conspiracy theorists on the right, thinking George Soros is paying all the BLM protestors..

None of those people were paid by any shadowy right-wing group

I'll believe it when I see it. I'm still betting on a closure after high school students start getting on the busses.

Is this a joke?? They’ll open on time and then everyone will be mad that they didn’t close, so they’ll close on Friday. I don’t see why we can’t just have a delay tomorrow

Yes, I was joking. But I'm confused by your post. Was that a joke? What could possibly be the justification for a delay tomorrow?

Lots of slick spots at our school this morning, but not sure a delay would have taken care of them since it's so cold.

If you are so miserable, give your kids lists of chores, study for hours, and make them make you dinner.

The rest of us like that our kids and teens get sleep, sledding, and smiles

lol, this.

My kids loved sleeping in, and then sledding and building snow castles and making snow angels (ES age).

Rest of you Karens, can't wait to hear your outrage on Friday when MCPS will close schools again. Its been so many years since we had a good snowfall and instead of letting your kids have fun, all you care about is missing school. Weren't you ever a kid?

I doubt you actually have young kids. The snow was quite fluffy-- it didn't stick at all. You weren't building snow forts with what we got this week.

Maybe you're just not doing it right? Fingers crossed for another snow day tomorrow!

No? Because they posted the same arguments word for word across multiple platforms. If they weren't paid, then they were invested in oddly specific fake science arguments for free.

+1. People here are so fragile and helpless! Also grew up further north and did not have fancy coats by any means. All the stores are having sales on winter gear right now or you could go to a consignment shop or see if someone is unloading on Buy Nothing.

Honestly, go on Twitter. Both said just parrot the same messages, word for word. And very very very few of them getting paid.

The simplest argument for the fringe elements is that they just are just true believer and will regurgitate what they've been told. No money involved

Yup, I think I got my winter coats from JC Penny or Burlington Coat Factory. Definitely no canadaian goose. lol

Welcome to winter. Unless you think it's reasonable to close schools whenever it is below 32F, you're going to have to be willing to watch where you step and to slow down when driving.

How is this complicated? Have you forgotten what winters are like because last year was so unusual?

Same - grew up in NJ and lived in Boston. Not everyone in MN or ND is rich and buying a $1000 jacket! It's called layers and also a bit of sucking it up and feeling a little cold and uncomfortable for a bit.

My boy wears a thin long sleeve t shirt, $30 puffer jacket and long pants today. My girl wears a thin long sleeves dress with leggings and $30 puffer jacket today. I told them to wear one more layer or wear sweater or something, and they said it is really hot inside school building. I doubt it. They both have runny nose and I insist that I drop you off at school today.

Have you actually been inside their school? Whenever I've been in DD's ES during the winter, it's always pretty toasty. I'm careful not to overdress now when I go. Germs spread regardless of the indoor temp.
