Another snow day!

I live in CCMD (not up county by any means) and my neighborhood is one huge sheet of ice. Driving is extremely dangerous.

They may as well call the whole week while they’re at it because more snow expected Thursday night so you know Friday will be closed. So they’ll get what, a 2 hr delay tomorrow?

They called it at 7:34 am. High school on a 2-hour delay starts at 9:45 am. Nobody was on a bus or walking to school yet. (My high school senior is going back to bed.)

That’s still too late for those of us with a long drive.

I love how people flock to DCUM to complain about "they" and "them" and "Dr. McKnight" without acknowledging that the people who are doing the hard, dangerous work and walking in hard, dangerous conditions are by and large poor, black and brown workers and families.

Get some perspective and hand the kids one of your iPads. If you're genuinely suffering because of the closure, I am sorry. But "I expect resignations" is just a nuts thing to say. FWIW my school and area seems fine.

Why would they close schools today? I really don't understand. I live upcounty and the roads are fine. Do they really think people can't drive when it's below 32 degrees?

I drove by our middle school at 5:50 a.m. and wondered why it was a sheet of ice. Drove back by at 7 am and knew they would close out of their sheer incompetence to get 3 inches of snow cleared with a day and a half to do so. All the roads and commercial parking lots are clear. What are the dangerous conditions if everything else is cleared and all the other school systems managed to do it?

Why the long drive? Were you at the cabin extra day? Or are you one of the kids my kid knows who lives in Frederick or Howard County but attends MCPS?

I live upcounty and a lot of sidewalks are not fine.

This right here is why I never want a leadership role of any kind. No one is ever happy with any decision.

That’s terrible communication!

I don’t care about schools being open or closed, but the conditions were known in advance and they should have announced the right decision yesterday, instead of changing their minds at the last minute.

My high schooler hadn’t left yet, but still. What crappy, crappy comms. I imagine parents of younger kids are scrambling.

Aside from the other school systems that are closed, of course.

Also aside from the sidewalks that are not clear.

So we'll have a one day school week since they obviously won't be able to handle Friday's snowfall either

Again, the roads are fine. Why close schools? They can plenty of time to clear sidewalks around the schools.
