Another snow day!

Your kids can't walk on sidewalks with some slippery spots? Really?

You guys are so out of touch. You need to spend a winter in update New York or Minnesota.

If it’s now persistent ice it’s because they failed to remove it yesterday and froze overnight. We walked up to our ES yesterday and it was plowed to the pavement.

Breaking news: this is a huge county. Conditions might be different in other places. The world doesn’t revolve around you.

They have been fully capable of clearing it in past years. I don’t remember ever getting an oops we couldn’t get the school grounds cleared 2 hrs bf school was scheduled to start. They would have known this last night. Add this to the kids already in school - hey it’s windy early dismissal sorry we didn’t bother to tell you sooner.

I do. Multiple times. With predictable howls of outrage from DCUM, just like now.

I remember late calls. Not specifically changing their minds after already calling it.

Kudos to the posters who said yesterday MCPS would change to a closure!!! You were right.

Damnit it’s clear. Get these kids back in school. The learning loss is scandalous.

Calm down! Your kids will be fine. Make them watch a National Geographic documentary today.

Everyone knew that morning (last week) it was a possibility. It was your job to know this as a parent. The rest of us did. Maybe time to do some self reflection rather than blame everyone else.

True, we should anticipate their incompetence better next time! Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t demand better though.

June 19 is also Juneteenth.

I think in a past year
Juneteenth was during staff cleanout days after kids were gone, and staff got that day off but were expecting to come back the next day to finish up.

Right, the appropriate response is to type lots of outrage posting anonymously on an internet message board because MCPS made the wrong decision again! And how do we know it's the wrong decision? Because MCPS made it. Any decision made by MCPS is the wrong decision, by definition!

The 19th is Juneteenth. School would be closed that day.

Sorry, meant June 17..

Essentially missing this entire week due to snow related closures is not scandalous.

Especially if they go to school tomorrow, I wouldn't be suprised if they prepare the kids for virtual learning Friday. Will you complain about that too?

They better not. Virtual is just a loophole to have yet another day without meaningful instruction.

Good thing you don’t live in PG county. They have asynchronous days built into the school calendar that count towards the 180 days. Stop whining. Chances are, you don’t give a damn about learning loss, you care about childcare. Tale as old as time.

For real- I wouldn’t have gone to school all winter in they had closed for every day with slippery sidewalks….

My genius kids are fine. I'm "worried" about the other kids that I spend all year complaining about MCPS's efforts to serve.

You don't remember them announcing a delay, then a closure? Short memory.

We don’t live in NY or Minnesota which is why we’re in this predicament right now. Snow is rare. The county wasn’t prepared. How is this hard for you to understand?

They didn't. They bought themselves time by having a 2 hour delay and then called it.

2 hours past the usual 5am deadline is not 7:45 when I received my text and email.

DP but my kids are slightly older and I work from home so nope. Some of us actually care about education, imagine that. I’m sorry it’s not high priority for you.

PG county is actually open today so no asynchronous learning for them.

I’m enjoying the pro forma complaints about learning loss, as if the people making them aren’t already bashing MCPS for everything else at every turn. The food in this restaurant is terrible! And such small portions!
