Another snow day!

They should have been salting constantly overnight until the sun came up. Instead they let everything that melted yesterday refreeze. Clearing streets is not a one and done process

Pathetic and ridiculous. MoCo is an embarassment on every level.

Drove back by at 7 am and knew they would close out of their sheer incompetence to get 3 inches of snow cleared with a day and a half to do so. All the roads and commercial parking lots are clear. What are the dangerous conditions if everything else is cleared and all the other school systems managed to do it?

Aside from the other school systems that are closed, of course.

Also aside from the sidewalks that are not clear.

Crickey, teach your kids some resilience already. Or get sone yak trax.

But yeah, I guess we should have known since Howard county closed. Gotta always follow Howard.

Do you know how many MCPS teachers live in HoCo? Again, no subs already on a good day to cover classes

Damnit it’s clear. Get these kids back in school. The learning loss is scandalous.

Essentially missing this entire week due to snow related closures is not scandalous.

Especially if they go to school tomorrow, I wouldn't be suprised if they prepare the kids for virtual learning Friday. Will you complain about that too?

They better not. Virtual is just a loophole to have yet another day without meaningful instruction.

Good thing you don’t live in PG county. They have asynchronous days built into the school calendar that count towards the 180 days. Stop whining. Chances are, you don’t give a damn about learning loss, you care about childcare. Tale as old as time.

DP but my kids are slightly older and I work from home so nope. Some of us actually care about education, imagine that. I’m sorry it’s not high priority for you.

PG county is actually open today so no asynchronous learning for them.

You come across as pathetic. Life happens, deal with it. That is the best lesson you can teach your kids. Have them cook or bake something today. As long as their minds are active, all good

They who? Not to mention that people who like to have drinking water do not support "constant" salting of the roads.

It’s the end of the semester so all this week would have been is make ups of last week’s MAP testing and pulling teeth to get kids to complete missing work before grades are due. Little new learning is happening this time of year because of the pressure being placed solely on teachers to get kids to score higher on standardized tests and turn in all work to get inflated grades to make the schools look good.

No map testing for kids in AP classes trying to learn a lot of content before the exam

Your kids can't walk on sidewalks with some slippery spots? Really?

You guys are so out of touch. You need to spend a winter in update New York or Minnesota.

We don’t live in NY or Minnesota which is why we’re in this predicament right now. Snow is rare. The county wasn’t prepared. How is this hard for you to understand?

The county is fine. The conditions, including roads and sidewalks, are what you'd find in upstate New York or Minnesota when everything is operating business as usual after a snowfall.

It is MCPS that is so incompetent. This wasn't a major storm requiring a great deal of snow/ice removal resources. And they had lots of time. If they actually had problems, it is because they bother to work to clear the sno yesterday at schools, which is mind-blogging.

Breaking news: they can still study at home today.

They did. County roads are fine. It's apparently just MCPS that didn't bother to do anything.

The county you idiot. And other areas are able to salt AND have clean drinking water. It's called water treatment plants, unless you're drinking straight storm runoff.

They are going to claw back some spring break days

There’s built in days. We aren’t there yet and they aren’t going to do it for Spring Break. Too many staff members would be out. The kids will be fine. The sky is falling crowd because kids missed 2 days of school is wild.

Closing today doesn't speak well for the likelihood we'll have enough extra days built into the calendar.

MCPS always schedules 185 school days despite the state minimum of 180. That doesn’t include the days they have designated as potential make up days. It’s a hot spot for teachers because the union isn’t allowed to negotiate the length of the school year (or class size). Btw, the state only requires 168 school days from private schools. So talk to me again about learning loss
