Why are people so judgy and easily offended now?

Best post on this thread. Thank you!

Signed, immigrant.

This is what I've always thought too. No one is experiencing any real hardship anymore so they make it up.

There's a huge difference between people 30 and north (especially 35 and north) and people in their 20s and late teens. And it's due to the failures of education. It makes complete sense when you realize what's being taught now and how it's being taught.

“Nearly 25% of College Students Say it’s Acceptable to Use Violence to Shut Down Controversial Speakers”

A new survey of the top 150 colleges in the United States found that nearly 25 percent of students believe it is acceptable to use violence to shut down a controversial speaker on campus.

At several elite women’s colleges, the number shockingly jumps to nearly 50 percent.“

I won’t correct you or explain why it’s offensive, because I’m not your mom and it’s not my job to school you on life. Also the people who still use these words have fragile egos and don’t like to be corrected.

No opinion on “I have a wife” - it sounds clunky in most contexts though - so I’m trying to imagine when I’d say “I have a husband” but I can’t. I’m sure that’s a failure of my imagination.

The arts thing needs more context. But leaning towards everyone’s an a**h**e.

If you are criticizing the use of “female” by Lil’ Jon, then you, PP, are obviously racist.

And the product boycotts of Bud Light, Carhartt, Target, Yeti coolers, etc. for being insufficiently hostile to gay people were.. ?

What does Bud Light have to do with gay people?

We’re in a coma for the past 6 months?

Not at all. The mess over Bud Light didn't involve gay people.

What do you think it was about?

It was about a trans activist they used in marketing campaign and all the usual gender crap that's all the rage lately. Not sure why you think this was about gay people.

How is that relevant? The singular form of they is recognized in the dictionary and has been for decades. The singular use of they was seen in texts dating back to the 14th century.

"They" used as singular generally refers to a generic person conceptually, not a particular specific individual.

Yes, but why are things different now? What caused the shift? Do you think it’s a good or bad thing? I feel like in 10-20 years the language that 25 year olds feel is acceptable now will be considered offensive in some other way.

It's a very good thing. People are more enlightened about language now. They want to be more inclusive and avoid microaggressions. They're not the issue. You are, old timer.

Don't be so smug, less than 1% of the world's population thinks like you. Leave your bubble of coastal urban elite woke snobbery and realize that most people think your world view is something that should only be ridiculed. Nobody who uses the term microaggression in a non ironic context should ever be taken seriously as a critical thinker.

Nobody who uses the term “woke” ( esp a la Fox News/insult) should be critiquing people’s thinking skills.

Hmm, funny. The left seemed to like that word up until a few years ago.

Example, using the word “female” to describe a woman which I occasionally do, and have heard countless other women use it in the exact same context. I sometimes get called out for it by these easy to offend types.

Why are you calling human females 'female?' They are women. If you are using female as an adjective,, that would be different (i.e. "I know a couple of female stock car racers.")

I don’t know; ask Lil’ Jon why.

I am asking OP, whom I presume remembers some of his grammar lessons from school, not a useless rapper unconcerned with so-called standard grammar and language. And women have expressed their disgust with said rapper's use of females, as well.

Yet that exact same song is still played all the time on local radio.

The song, Get Low, has also been used by Hollywood in numerous movies, videos, etc.

What is your point? The song is mainstream, therefore no one should believe calling a woman ‘female’ isn’t problematic?

+1

This. Plus, this area has persnickety people who look for problems.

You describing people as judgy and easily offended makes you…wait for it…judgmental and easily offended. Oh and they just happen to be younger than you, gee, wonder why that bothers you so.

true

Yup. The woke left.

Because we are being trained to look out for and call out anything slightly offensive. I had to take a three hour microagression training for work and thought my eyes would roll out of my head. It "trained" us to perceive just about anything as offensive.

Female is disliked by some because it has a closer tie to biology, and can’t be colonized the way “woman” can be.
