It's used a lot in the military and isn't derogatory. Took me a while to get used to that when I worked for the Army as a civilian. Not that I found it offensive, just jarring because it wasn't how I was used to hearing about people rather than animals or plants. |

I’m a female who started to use female to refer to myself because I feel excluded out of the current use of woman, which has been rendered largely meaningless and seems to be based on extremely regressive stereotypes of femininity. Apparently now you are a “woman” if you like frills, heels, and pink.
I reject that entirely, and refer to myself as female. |
That's not true at all. |
OMG - this is truly terrifying. Young people have lost their minds! |
I don’t understand when young people became so afraid of free speech. Gen X here and I remember free speech being a big point of pride when I was young? Even the ACLU has abandoned free speech as an issue to champion. It’s a shift that I don’t really understand. |
Seems to be true to me. |
|
I haven't found this to be true but then I don't really engage with young people. Young people are judgy in their service industry jobs but I haven't noticed them being offended when I don't tip. Seems only words or feelings matter to them but ignoring us quite effective.
Where are these grown adults who are constantly offended? Millennials are only offended online while scrolling their phones and GenX takes quite the effort to offend |
GenZ didn't influence the ACLU's shift into irrelevance. It was the rich GenX and Millennial progressive donors. |
True, but the speed with which the ACLU has wholly abandoned free speech as a cause is emblematic of wider issues. |
So you truly believe a pull from a hack like Jack Posobiec and his far, right wing, discredited bull? Okay then. |
+1 and if some fringe group was speaking at my university, people would protest. It was accepted that they had the right to speak, but also expected that people wouldn't like it and would voice their opinions with signs and yelling etc. Something that may be different these days is that these groups used to be really fringe, like a racist skinhead group in the 80s or 90s or Fred Phelps church. But today the hate groups aren't so "out there." There really are politicians who believe the rights of a fetus are equal to or more important than the health of the mother. There really are people with governmental power who believe the word "gay" shouldn't be utteredin school. There's probably more of a sense of urgency to shut these people down because they very well might make laws that negatively impact us. |
To be fair to Lil’ Jon, - his original version did not use the now-controversial term “females” to refer to women. It used the term “ b!+ches “ to refer to women. “Till all these b!+ches crawl (crawl).” - Lil’ Jon. |
| Why is it acceptable for artists to use such degrading words and phrases in music? I can stand on a sidewalk and a car will come by blasting racist, misogynistic lyrics and no one bats an eye. |
Right... Get thee into thine "safe room" stat... where's the weighted blanket? Assume fetal position... oops sorry, I should have said "TRIGGER WARNING"... before I said "fetal" |
What is wrong with the word "homosexual"? I think I missed that one, but again, I usually just say "gay or not gay" because I don't have the bandwidth or care to figure out all of the other terms mean... binary, non-binary, queer adjacent, bi-curious, pan-sexual...etc., etc., it all seems a bit silly, I mean as a female of a certain age I am invisible as a sexual being these days, so should I care, no one really pays any attention to anything I say anyway? Plus, it all reeks of over-indulgence, overinflated sense of self-importance, over-egotistical, over-valuing of one's individual significance in the universe... if you ask me... it is the very definition of what it is to be young I guess. It's all so very millennial, or GenZ, or whatever generation we are at now... you know, those just now coming of age, the perky ones, with all of their new and improved cutting-edge, fantastical, and novel ideas. You have to love youth! Live and let live, enjoy the sun on your face. It doesn't last forever. |
