Glad you've never been carjacked.

Has there been an outbreak of carjackings by flower vendors at intersections?

Have you never seen groups of flower and water vendors? You may enjoy it when they all get near your car in the evening in a city. I don't. You don't know their history or their intentions.

This is why I can't take anyone who says "I left/don't go into DC because I don't feel safe anymore" seriously.

For every person with a legitimate gripe there are 100 lunatics like this person who seriously believe some poor Salvadoran abuela selling flowers is just waiting for the opportunity to slit your throat and take your car.

I can't imagine how miserable life must be when you're that delusional and paranoid. It's really sad people choose to live like that instead of getting help.

I'm the PP. You are grossly misunderstanding my feelings. I'm not talking about one or two poor Salvadoran abuelos selling flowers as we wait for the light. I'm talking about groups of older teens selling flowers and water bottles who won't move awav if you shake your head no thanks.

Sure.....tax dodging is a victimless crime. Let's all not pay taxes on any money earned. If they're allowed to break the law and start unlicensed businesses wherever and whenever they feel like it then why doesn't everyone else do the same and get held to the same standards? Let's just start cookie, fruit, and other stands in the middle of intersections and block traffic whenever we feel like it? No wonder this country is going to crap. No one obeys the laws anymore and we allow too much flexibility whenever people think a law shouldn't apply to them.

This might be hard to comprehend with a feeble mind like yours, but maybe tax dodging by rich or under the table cash workers are BOTH bad at the same time.

You can’t even accurately measure how much in tax revenue is stolen from the govt by under the table cash workers because the perpetrators are a black market of labor and businesses that aren’t registered with anyone nor have and identifications or permits.

Q: Should we go after the people who owe millions and millions of dollars, or the people who owe tens of dollars?
A: Definitely the people who owe tens of dollars!

Right answer: go after all

They undercut local small businesses. Wipe them out.

Yup.

It's amazing how good of a profit margin you have when you pay $0 in licensing fees, $0 in income taxes, $0 in social security and wage taxes as an employers, etc.

They're illegal, unlicensed businesses they dodge huge amounts of taxes and fees that should be going to federal and local governments. On top of that they're safety hazards to themselves and everyone on the road.

I guess this country has no laws anymore and do whatever you want. 3rd world USA.

SURREEEE one is going to earn enough for a meal that day and the other stashes millions in an offshore account. But I guess its worth it to you since you were inconvenienced for 3 seconds.

Do the math. If there are 10 million black market workers per year earning $10, 20, 30, 40k in taxes per year, how much money is hidden by the govt?

Just be honest. You dont give a sh!t about law and order.

You don't think they'd rather be doing literally anything else? You're a monster. A ghoul. I hope you miss every green light from now until you die.

Let me inconvenience you with illegal activity and see how you like it.

I hope you lawlessness ruins your quality of life eventually, because nitwits like you roll out the red carpet for it.

You don't think us rational people see the same flower sellers you do every day? We don't care, that's literally what we've been trying to tell you. It doesn't inconvenience or ruin our quality of life at all because we aren't nutso like you.

Unnecessary traffic jams due to illegal activity ruin quality of life.

You're just dumb and constantly make excuses for illegal behavior, as if we should tolerate it.

The people are illegally in the USA - which most of you do not care about. Did you ever consider:

- they pay $0 in taxes,
- they use the emergency room for “free healthcare” (and give fake addresses)
- enroll their kids (citizen and non citizen alike) in public school with zero English proficiency
- can’t and won’t help their kids with academics, and they don’t volunteer
- if they file taxes at all, they cheat the system and claim relatives back in Central America to inflate their tax returns.

Biden won’t lift a finger to secure the border. In fact, he is suing Texas to open wide the border after Texas put floaties in the Rio Grand.

No reason for political rants here. It's very simple: people should not be in the middle of the street interfering with traffic. They should cross at the "walk sign". It's common sense. People belong on the sidewalk. Cars on the roads. It's not rocket science.

I don’t think the people selling flowers are a front for anything but I find them super irritating and I wish the police would crack down.

Translation: we only need to obey the law when we feel like it!

Who needs to obtain permits, pay taxes, and have appropriate labor safety? Because you entered the country illegally and are poor, you should be exempt? The reason the US isn't a 3rd world country is because we have law and order and rules for way of doing things, like conducting legal business. Increasingly I find people have the attitude that we should be more lackadaisical, hence the rapid decline of this country.

Get rid of the pan handlers and homeless too, making it a crime to aide and abed

The flower vendors at least are working hard to make a living. Contrast that with the grifters and vagrants who panhandle at intersections. The worst are the ones who ply the narrow traffic median on Rock Creek Pkwy where they could badly injure themselves.

Nice classist rant. Panhandling is not a crime. Neither is selling flowers. If you have evidence of a crime then you should contact the police and offer your advice. Coming onto a forum that caters to those with wealth and success just to drum up support against people who are working hard to support themselves is mean spirited and myopic. It's gross.

Sure you care so much about their safety that you want to take away their livelihood. You are not fooling anyone.

Selling flowers is a crime. You are running an unlicensed business. You are collecting cash income and not reporting the income to the IRS. You are violating labor safety laws by conducting business at busy street intersections where it is illegal to do so.

All I hear from you are excuses upon more excuses for why certain people should be exempt from following our laws.

This thread has made me want to buy flowers from the next vendor I see after having never done so before. Thanks for the motivation, angry ranters!
