| Collective bargaining was approved and is coming. I hope teachers can get changes that will improve their job satisfaction. We need to keep our good teachers! |
Employees need to show a majority support to call for a union election. There is a form the Fairfax Education Unions (FEU, joint FEA & FCFT) employees can sign. |
I was a teacher. The union leaders don't care about the teachers or the students. They are out for the union leadership. Period. I have witnessed this in more than one system. |
Our master schedule has Math at 60 mins and Reading at 60. Too long for little kids. 45 mins is ideal. That extra 30 mins could be used for something else. |
Part time I hear a lot of teachers say there are no options for this in FCPS....but teachers want the option. |
Yep. Discipline the kids. Have order in the school. Stop reinventing curriculum every 3 years because district office desk jockeys need busywork to justify their jobs. Stop loading us up with BS initiatives that take away time to plan for our classes. Stop acting like parents are actually your employer. Do something about the GD phones. Back us up in the rare instance we need help. |
They are limited. But job sharing is a way to get some teachers back into the classroom. Many teachers have young kids and would want this option. |
Last year mine had 50 minutes straight of small group instruction. 30 minutes of math followed by a 20 minute intervention block. I had a difficult time planning for all of it (and that’s only that small part of the day) managing it and keeping everyone on task. |
| Resource positions are most definitely being put into classrooms. |
Exactly. Small group instruction means trouble for the kids not meeting with the teacher. Shorter blocks gives kids the opportunity to regroup and focus. My dream schedule… 45 min Math 45 mins Reading 45 mins Writing 15 mins Word Study 30 mins Science 30 mins SS 15 min Morning Meeting 45 mins recess 30 mins lunch 1 hour of specials |
Instructional Coaches should be too… |
I posted earlier in this thread. It’s one of the things that caused me to leave a few years earlier than planned. Ideally the students would have rotated through centers or would have had options of some sort, but they weren’t able to stay self-directed and on task for that long. I just couldn’t keep up with all of it. |
| I'm not sure why you think that list is unusual. Many years in the past it has been much longer. It looks pretty average really, with the exception of all the open music and art positions, which is a bit weird. |
That’s what I mean by resource. |
FCPS hiring team. Found a grammar teacher for you. |
