Here’s the thing:
We don’t talk about or even think about “conservative parents” unless you’re doing batsh#t crazy things like trying to ban books or threatening our teachers or local school board. Like, you’re not a topic of conversation in our lives unless you’re getting up to some crazy-ass stuff. Going back to your point - I would definitely be weirded out if someone I knew said “Conservative parents must be destroyed and eliminated.” However, the more likely scenario is that such words would never be uttered because I surround myself with stable people.

This gets to the rub of the matter:
why does “Woke” - a fictional concept - live rent-free in conservatives’ heads?

I can't speak for conservatives because I am liberal. However, some of the craziest woke ideas are actually being implemented in progressive places such as NoVA and MoCo. Normal people of all political affiliations are fed up and they're starting to push back.

What are these woke ideas, exactly?
The worst is allowing males to play girls' sports in school. Doing this in K-5 is OK, in middle school is less OK, in high school is completely insane and anti-science.

That’s not a woke idea. That’s the result of a SCOTUS decision penned by Justice Gorsuch before Biden was even elected.
Come on man. That wasn't a real case. "The Supreme Court’s brief order, which let stand an appeals court’s temporary injunction, gave no reasons, which is not unusual when the justices rule on emergency applications filed on what critics call the court’s shadow docket." We'll soon see a real case and the Supreme Court will prohibit males from playing girls' sports because this is what most sane people believe is fair. And you'll be right back here screeching about it and begging Biden to pack the court. So yes, allowing males to compete in girls' sports is woke, anti-science, and discriminatory against 50% of the population.

I’m talking about Bostock, which was a real case. The court did not grant cert to Virginia in the Grimm case.

I don’t give a damn about sports, and I never will, but let’s not pretend a bunch of libs voted for Gorsuch to make this happen, mmkay?
Come on man. That's not related to what I said, even a little. Bostock was about being fired for being gay. No one should be fired for being gay or trans. I said "the worst is allowing males to play girls' sports in school." This is woke, insane, illiberal, and discriminatory to girls (the female kind) who play and DO care about sports.

Any law related to sex discrimination will have to fall in line with the Bostock and Grimm decisions, such as Title IX.

You can feel however you want to feel about it, but don’t blame liberal voters. Trump and McConnell are responsible for Gorsuch being on the court. This is the law of the land now. Deal with it.

If you’re a lawyer you’re a really bad one. It does not follow from those opinions that boys have to be allowed to join sports teams for girls. Also, even if you were right (which you are not), the liberal justices joined Gorsuch on this opinion, which was obviously decisive. There were conservative justices in descent. So if you want to allocate blame, more goes the liberals

Give it a goog

I just dug through both decisions and read a few articles on it but couldn't find anything connecting either case to K-12 trans athletes playing girls' sports. Can you point me in the right direction...a quote or a link?

This is the first link I found via Google. I skimmed it. Plenty of other resources can be found by searching “title IX Bostock.”

People can generally (though not always) recognize someone of Latin American descent. Anyway my response actually said “Latino or otherwise non-white.”

How can you tell "generally"? This is crazy. Latin Americans are as diverse as Americans are (it's the Americas). Have you ever travelled in Latin America??? I have met people in Latin America whose ancestors immigrated there from Italy, Germany, Ireland, China, Africa, etc. The one thing they have in common is that they speak Spanish and that is why they are called "hispanic". They are all hispanic.

The guy who just pitched a no hitter (Yankees), Domingo German, is from "Latin America". Would you call him hispanic if you saw him and didn't know his name or where he was from? Just wondering.

Sure the guy was white. It’s mostly white men who are afraid of “woke” not that they even know what it is. This is their way of being racist, homophobic and misogynistic without coming right out and saying it.
Many woke policies discriminate against whites, straights, and men. So it's little wonder many straight white men are anti-woke.

Eh. Not really. I don't care much about bathrooms. I don't think think penises should be in women's locker rooms. And males, penis or not, shouldn't be allowed to compete in women's sports, especially not in girls' sports based on nothing but a feeling the male has. The above doesn't address the last two issues unfortunately.

So yesterday, I go to pick up a pizza from a local spot near our house in the DC suburbs. A bunch of the pizza delivery drivers are in the parking lot, taking break between deliveries. Some are dozing in their car.

One of the drivers is sitting on the asphalt ground, smoking his vape pen, and animatedly talking to someone on the phone:

Yes, the Woke need to be eradicated and destroyed. I don’t care how we do it, but everything and everyone Woke needs to crushed. That’s what Trump was all about, and why Biden is a disaster. If we don’t destroy the Woke, this country is done.”

He kept going on and on, repeating himself to whoever was on the phone. I hustled my kid into the car, as my kid could tell the guy was angry.

Wtf is happening in this country that a pizza delivery guy is spending his time so angrily talking about “Woke”?

He sounded like a religious nutcase.

😆 I don’t know, lady, of all the places in this country for a working class person to be ranting about wokeness, near your house in the DC suburbs probably makes the MOST sense

Non sequitur. “DC suburbs” extends out a good 30 miles. The language wasn’t really appropriate in any location.

So what? The whole area is deep blue compared to the rest of the country. The original post could be studied as a textbook example of smug liberalism.

Are you OP? Who the heck are you to police the “language” of a bunch of guys on break from their working class job?

If the guy were white OP probably would have said so to bolster the OMG-Trump-Supporters picture you were trying to paint so I’m betting the guy was Latino or otherwise non-white. And OP just seems absolutely clutching-pearls horrified that a person like that disagrees with OP’s own politics.

Doubt it. The syntax/vocabulary used is not something a native Spanish speaker who has learned English would use. Especially the "needs to be crushed" and "this country is done" phrases.

OP here: the pizza delivery man who was speaking on the phone appeared to be Caucasian.

You, OP, are a modern day Macarthyist. Except instead of hunting purported communists, you can’t stand anyone who holds a centrist or right leaning opinion. Get a grip.

I can’t even believe this thread hasn’t been deleted. OP has one anecdote - probably made up - and is extrapolating it to an entire swath of people. What a complete idiot.

OP, how do you feel about the above diatribe? Maybe said by one of your friends venting with a glass of wine? I’ve definitely heard things similar to that in the last few days.

But if it’s the other side’s venting (with a vape pen *gasp* rather than an expensive glass of wine) suddenly it’s the end of the world?

1. No mainstream liberal is saying Supreme Court justices need to be "eradicated," "crushed," or "destroyed." Those are words of violence. At worst they're saying they should be impeached or the court should be packed but those are VERY different things.

2. The Supreme Court ACTUALLY IS putting Americans in danger - women will DIE because of their partisan hackery. The Supreme court ACTUALLY IS taking bribe from billionaires and ruling in their favor. The Supreme Court ACTUALLY IS full of rapists and sexual abusers. Yet on the other side, "woke" isn't even a real thing. There is no conspiracy coming for you. The people losing their minds, casting their votes, being radicalized to harm people over "wokeness" can't even tell you what it is! It's not OK to call for violence against opposing views but being angry over something that's actually destroying our country is very different from being angry over a boogeyman made up by FOX news and pushed by con men who know their base is too dumb to realize.

DP. Do you even hear yourself? You sound absolutely insane. NO ONE on the court is taking bribes, and NO ONE on the court is a "rapist or sexual abuser," you utter imbecile. Talk about radicalized. You are so far gone it's embarrassing.

Sure, those pubes just magically appeared on the diet coke can, and all those credible accusations that were never investigated by the FBI must have just been made up. And that private jet to Alaska paid for by the person involved in a Supreme Court case had nothing to do with the decision.

Imagine being this willfully ignorant.

Such a lame defense. A joke about a pube on a soda can makes you a sexual abuser and/or rapist? It was a joke about something looking like one btw - what are you even taking about?? Hyperbole much? That private jet person was not a party in a case before the court and you’re stretching the word “involved” to the point where your own preferred justices have done the same thing. An investigation of allegations is not proof and I think you’re confusing someone with Cosby or something - no allegations like that were ever found credible.

Assuming you're actually asking and not feigning ignorance to push a disingenuous narrative, progressives pushed "being woke" meaning being aware of how discrimination and racism pervades our society both on a macro level but also on smaller levels many privileged people aren't even aware of. That's what real "woke" means, simply understanding the deck is stacked against POC and it's insidious and intentional.

Conservative "woke," while sharing the same word, does not mean this. In fact it doesn't mean anything and it means whatever the person using it wants you to think it means. This usurping of the word was intentional, to steal it from people who actually want to use it to make the world a better place and hijack it to sow discord.

There is a less insidious example you are probably aware of; "hipster." It originally meant a very specific kind of young person who wore ironic thrift store clothing and listened to bands you've never heard of and stopped listening to them once you had. The word was hijacked and now "hipster" just means any young person who dresses or acts differently from whoever is using the word.

This is not a complicated concept. It has been happening to many different words for many generations. "Beatnik" was the same way. Reasonably intelligent people can easily tell the difference between the original use of the word and the insidious use of the word. If reasonably intelligent people can do it, why can't you?

DP. That’s all fine and good but I hardly think the way the right uses “woke” is insidious. The same thing happened with “political correctness,” which wasn’t originally a term of mockery but came to be one. “Woke” is just a catchall for left-wing identity politics moving beyond racial now to include sex/gender politics. How is it unfair to use the term “woke” this way?

Because it has an actual meaning and the right is deliberately perverting that meaning specifically to reduce the original meaning.

If it was an organic progression where liberals used woke to refer to more and more things, diluting the meaning that would be one thing, but that's not what happened. The right deliberately said "let's use this for everything so nobody knows what woke means and nothing will be woke." That's basically the dictionary definition of insidious and unfair.

Sorry, words acquire new meanings and the English language does not belong to your side. Are you someone who also gets really uptight about proper usage of the Oxford comma or stuff like that? Language evolves.

DP. “The English language does not belong to your side”?? Do you even hear yourself? Language doesn’t “belong” to anyone - including you. You sound like a WOKE moron, in every sense of the word(s).

Non-leftists know perfectly well what woke is. What you're describing as reality about structural racism is what we consider to be a baseless conspiracy called critical race theory, which posits that America was founded on racist principles and that racism pervades every aspect of American life, and the only way to racial harmony is the redistribution of wealth and arranging our policies and economy around "equity." So we could just call you Marxists, but you prefer the term woke, so we are calling you by your preferred adjectives. We know how you leftists cherish being called by the words you choose for yourselves

Exactly. They’ve self-identified as woke so we’re just being considerate by referring to them as such.

Yes, unfortunately there is really no place left on earth to relocate the woke population to, it would be a grand experiment to see what type of society they would create.
