100% Seriously??Death??
start washing your hands and being careful. Most folks have NEVER had covid.

Feel better, OP!

And you know this...how?

Only on DCUM will you find people shaming someone for being sick and scolding them that they should still be wearing a mask. A bunch of weirdos here who seem almost happy to hear that someone who no longer masks is sick just so they can feel some twisted sense of superiority. You all are the reason people hate the DC area. Truly a bunch of weirdos.

Op here. I have a doc appointment tomorrow morning but I’m 95% sure it’s hand foot and mouth. I’ve got a ton more sores now and they itch like crazy. Some are flesh colored and some are red. I also have them in my mouth and I can’t see them but I swear I have them in my eyes (my eyes hurt and are swollen).

I’m not a troll. And when I said we’re not taking any precautions, what I meant specifically is that we are living life. We go to activities/daycare/therapies. My kids are not masking (because no one at any of these places is masking anymore). We travel on planes (1-2 a year). We go to restaurants occasionally and we see friends. DH and I work in person in offices. I have a client facing role and masking is deeply frowned upon. We do wash hands and we vaccinate. I’ve been trying to stay away from my kids while I’m ill. I don’t really see how me masking would make a huge difference when my kids bring so much illness home and have such high levels of exposure to germs.

YES! Thanks, OP. That was my guess. Please confirm later.

PS: Sorry you're sick. You'll feel better soon.

Op here. Went to doc. Negative for flu, covid, and strep. They said it’s definitely HFM.

I didn’t realize that the HFM sores can truly show up ANYWHERE….including the genitalia. I am in hell right now.

Something like 90% of people have been infected with COVID.

Test yourself for strep. My husband had similar symptoms with strep. I only wish there was a home strep test available. He literally could not walk, so I could not take hm to the doc. When he started feeling slightly better, he went to urgent care and sure enough he had strep. He felt almost completely better 24-48 hours after he started antibiotics.

He also had 103 fever and had to alternately tylenol and motrin.

Sorry I am PP and just read your update. I guess it's not strep. Bummer, that would have been an easy solution. Get better OP!

Apparently the longest lasting effect of Covid is that there are a significant % of the population that think it’s someone’s fault when they get sick.

I mean, wear a mask if it makes you feel better, but the evidence is quite strong that even wearing a N95 that isn’t properly fitted (which is all of you out there in a non-health care setting) it is of minimal benefit, at best.

The evidence is the opposite of this, actually.

Thanks for the update, OP.
I’m sorry you’re feeling so lousy! Hope you are on the mend soon.

Two questions: did the doctor give you any meds / treatment / remedies for this?

Second: any suggestion about the origin of this, or how to prevent exposure to the rest of your family?
When my firstborn was in daycare, there was an outbreak and several kids (and their families) got it. I don’t remember having any symptoms and I wonder if everyone is just exposed at some point. Some people get it badly and some don’t?

Op here. The doc prescribed steroids and a mouthwash for me, but I don’t think I’ll take either. I’m managing ok with antihistamine and over the counter remedies.

My kids have both had HFM before and despite caring for them completely, neither of us got it.

This time I know I got it from my 4 year old who got it from camp. Unsure why I’ve never had it before.

This is up there with a pretty awful illness though. I have mostly been in bed since Saturday evening and I’m still not better. It kind of reminds me of when I was a kid and got chicken pox.

Op here. Anyone care to weigh in about whether this is STILL HFM or if it’s a new sickness.

I thought I had improved….

I have a fever and chills. The sores are almost gone.

I’ve got like level 8/9 pain in my upper back/shoulders and behind my sternum.

I’m so freaking angry right now. Currently in La Jolla on a beach vacation with DH and small kids and I can’t get out of bed.

Is this COVID after all? I tested negative for it twice, but can this really be HFM?
