This cold or flu or whatever started as a sore throat, then sneezing and nose blowing, achy and tired, then the cough, kept getting worse, turned into pneumonia, been on antibiotics and steroids for 5 days and am just starting to feel it start to go away. Still feeling weak and tired and sick. I'll take covid any day.

I don't understand how OP could have covid at least twice and still be wondering if maybe Paxlovid might help.

Op here. I’m so sorry you’ve been so sick! That sounds awful!!! You’ve never been able to figure out what it is?

The first time I had COVID was early in the pandemic and paxlovid didn’t exist. The 2nd time I tried to get it but was unable. I thought the consensus was that it didn’t help very much.

What I have is a virus that turned into pneumonia. I got diagnosed at urgent care when I finally gave up just waiting it out. As you can see from the comments you have gotten, and was also my experience and my adult daughter's too, Paxlovid made a big difference. It gives you a weird taste in your mouth but is otherwise totally worth it. And BTW I tested twice and definitely don't have covid.

Yes, Paxlovid was a miracle!

Many people get rebound with Paxlovid.

I hope you get well soon OP. I will tell you this when I had a job with young kids in college and when my own kids were young many years later I got sick a lot-very sick. It definitely built up my immune system. So hopefully your suffering today will mean less suffering years from now?

I just posted, but as a mom who has a child with SN I have to say shame on anyone who is not empathetic to OP. The stress of keeping your child safe, all the appointments, all the efforts to just reach milestones most of you take for granted and endless other things can really do you in.

Be open to the idea that you may actually not have Covid.

Op here. I think you might be right. My home test was negative.

My breath is super crackly now and I’ve got a terrible headache and constant chills. I don’t think I have a fever but last night I had a fever of 103 for several hours even after maxing out my doses of Advil and Tylenol. I think those super high fevers are the worst. Just raw misery and nothing to do but endure it.

OP, you need to go to the doctor. It doesn’t sound like you have done that yet. See your GP or go to an urgent care.

Sounds like you might have the flu.

Op here. I went through this stuff so many times last winter. I don’t know if I just have bad providers but they never did anything helpful. They gave me antibiotics, which helped when needed. But since I’ve only been sick for a few days I don’t think they’ll give me any-they usually want you to have been sick for longer.

I had the flu in February. I thought flu season was over??? But yes I’m very sick.

Honestly I’d get your immune system checked. I’m immune compromised and have not been near as sick as your describing in the past year.

You could have strep! Its going around right now and varied symptoms for everyone. Get tested at an urgent care! Feel better.

Anonymous wrote:I'm so sorry. I know exactly the feeling you are talking about. When I got a bad case of mastitis, I remember laying in bed thinking that the 103 fever and body aches were as bad or worse than labor. My first Covid vaccine shot also gave me 103 fever and body aches, and I remember having that same thought again. It's just really hard to have a high fever as an adult. I hope you can get Paxlovid and some relief.

Op here. Thank you. This truly reminds me of labor. Just the despair and the desperately wanting it to be OVER, and just craving relief, any kid of relief.

I’m just so freaking angry right now, we had the worst winter ever of kid illnesses, I missed so much work, I was so badly sick (with flu and with covid and multiple other viruses). I feel like I CANNOT GO BACK TO THAT HORRIBLE TIME AGAIN. I CANNOT DO IT.

I’m sorry OP. We had a terrible winter too and it was a dark, depressing time for us. Thankfully COVID was mild for us, but I feel this way about stomach viruses. Every time I get one there’s a high likelihood of me ending up in the ER on IV fluids. I have low blood pressure and then adding in vomiting just makes me collapse. And all I can do is try not to cry while I wait for it to be over.

I hope you can get some relief soon.

Anonymous wrote:What are you doing hygiene wise that you keep getting sick?

Op here. I have small children and I work full time. One of my kids has profound special needs and has a ton of doctor and therapy appointments.

I avail myself of daycare, therapies, etc for my children so I can work.

Work also mandated return to office, 3 days a week.

We don’t really take any precautions besides washing hands frequently. It just feels like a lost cause.

Well, it’s not a lost cause. I’ve been masking indoors and haven’t gotten covid yet.

I’d rather take a risk with Covid than continue
masking. We’ve traveled extensively, worked out at gyms, dined in dozens of restaurants and had Covid once. It was like a cold. YMMV.
