Bama Rush documentary (HBO) coming May 23rd

This is 2023! Hidden cameras and microphones can be tiny and wireless. They could have come up with some necklace for a PNM to wear and the sororities would have had no clue.

Apparently Alabama sorority rush happened a week before Tennessee and word got out that some of the Alabama girls wore wires and cameras and they actually caught a few at Tennessee trying to infiltrate. Seems as though HBO was trying this at multiple schools.

I doubt it 🙄

Seems like all the Alabama people are very angry & throwing everything they can at this documentary.

I personally find it interesting! I love peaking into bizarre subcultures. I do have to admit that I would not send my daughter there after watching it.

Did you know the director is bald?!?

Yes, it’s in the documentary, she makes a few appearances. She has alopecia. Her appearances are quite arresting! She is a compelling figure. It’s an interesting juxtaposition to the vapid silly Bama girls.

I have a good friend who had two girls go through Bama and both joined sororities. I recall the whole summer prepping for the process...lots of shopping for clothes and makeup. So shallow.

It was boring

It was a joke as she mentioned it probably 37 times. Never have we seen a doc featuring the director of said doc more prominently than the subject matter.

Well they OBVIOUSLY did not mic up the PNMs because if they had it would have been infinitely more interesting than this 1hr 40min waste of time.

^^^To add, if you REALLY want an inside juicy look at sororities read Pledged by Alexandra Robbins!

When I finished I thought what the heck did I miss? It was so disjointed and had little insight to the process.
The director sticking to just her own story would have been interesting but the juxtaposition with rush just didn't work.

Was excited to watch this last night and it was a nothingburger. Disjointed. Boring.

Now I have to hope the Duggar doc is better

Only 42.1% of UA students come from Alabama.

True but some PP’s made it sound like you’ll never make a “top house” if you’re not from Alabama. But maybe the frats aren’t like that.

The fraternities are indeed exclusive of OOS-ers. You can’t get into a top fraternity at Ole Miss for example if you aren’t from the state -even then you’d better know people in Oxford and have some strong connections.

The director's inclusion in the series ruined it. It was not supposed to be about her.

I wonder if that was her plan from the beginning or if she inserted herself after the rumors squashed any plans she had to record rush activities.

Apparently Alabama folks are freaking out over the documentary and trying to disparage the director, fill sites with fake reviews, etc.

In the documentary a creepy fraternity mother said “no messes with the University of Alabama”….which I found intriguing… and the apparent (?!) oppo attack against the film makes me even more intrigued…no dog in the fight but I do like a juicy story
