Is this for HS girls who envision going to college to join the hot girl sorority? I guess this is aspirational for some. There must be a variety of promotions out there.

Can we assume you don't approve of half-time shows featuring the gyrations of certain singers?

I don't understand how this imagery is meant for other young women. The college students are giggling into each other's hair and the long line of them in shorts from behind. Looks geared to a male audience.

Yes, you are absolutely right. These sorority girls and aspirants are involved in courtship displays. They hope to attract young men from good families.

Can’t wait. My college didn’t have Greek life. I find this fascinating.

Lots of former, current & future sorority sisters shown on this Instagram page:

Apparently, professional college graduation pictures are a thing.

Add that to the list of stuff I won’t be paying for.

Is that weird? People get professional photos for everything these days. If you can afford it, why not?

Even the fraternities have a video these days, but it seems to be mostly showing the house. Interestingly … neither of these guys has a strong Southern accent.

I used to read Total Sorority Move back when it was active. For someone who went to a SLAC, it was a whole other world. Fascinating. And terrifying.

I’m skeptical of whether this doc got footage given all the efforts to keep them out. It may just be a bunch of b-roll and direct to camera “confessionals”. But there’s great material there if they managed to capture it.

Why do you think there is very little talk from black sororities about white sororities? They don't care about what white sororities do bc they don't want anyone to care what they are doing.

Not a chance. It will increase interest.

Back in the early 2000s MTV had a reality show called Sorority Life. It ran for a couple of seasons. Who knows maybe HBO will expand to a reality show.

Only 42.1% of UA students come from Alabama.

So you did not receive a bid. My condolences.

DP, but I think it's super weird that you think anyone who calls out toxic femininity wants to participate in it. I didn't join a sorority in college because I didn't need to pay for friends (or a nice house or facilities...I got all of that at my parents' house and my off-campus apartment). Frankly, this kind of talk reveals Greek societies as cults.

She also shared stories of girls who wouldn't pose for pictures during HS senior week with old friends who were a bit alternative and didn't have the right sorority "look" because they didn't want it posted on social media as it might jeopardize their recruitment chances.

I know this is not true of all Southern schools, and not representative of all people who rush, but in 2023, this is truly discouraging and despicable behavior that places me firmly in the anti-Greek camp.

I don't think I'll watch.

Wow. I'm a childfree woman so I'm totally out of the loop, but I had the impression that teens these days are way more woke and self-accepting than my generation was. Clearly I was dead wrong. This is so disheartening to see...something I'd expect from my generation, not the next one.

Hah! Nope. No sororities at my Ivy.

Ah, that's why you’re such an angry little thing, again, my condolences.

Not pp but she’s not the one coming off as insecure and angry in this discussion….

+1

I was a skinny, rich, sociable girl in college and never once felt the urge to join a sorority. Then again, nobody made me feel like I had to. I think PP is bitter or something? In college I could tell the difference is between happy, socially well-adjusted sorority girls, and angry, stuck-up "sorority bit****" who felt like they had something to prove, and they could only prove that "something" by trying to put you down. PP sounds like the latter.

Agree...it is so reductive of young women. Hello southern girls--- the 1950s are calling. You are more than your looks + your deigner labels+ blonde roots.

True but some PP’s made it sound like you’ll never make a “top house” if you’re not from Alabama. But maybe the frats aren’t like that.
