At my school (SEC) you were not guaranteed a bid. Some girls were dropped by every house. That being said it was very rare. This was about 15 years ago. |
Hah! Nope. No sororities at my Ivy. |
| I was in a sorority but it was not a big deal. They’re doing this at Alabama because it’s a weird subculture of a subculture. The vast majority of sororities don’t have anything interesting enough for a documentary. |

| In general I think you are only guaranteed a bid if you make it to the final day and follow the ranking guidelines. It wasn’t very competitive at my school, but that somehow made it worse because informal recruitment turned into a bigger deal and that wasn’t as well regulated. This was a long time ago now, so who knows. |
Is that what it is? Always wondered what the draw is? It seems silly. |

I was just talking to a friend in Texas. She said that the girls from her son's HS hire a "social media editor" to edit their social profiles so they look good for college rush, where apparently their IG / Tik Tok accounts are like a "resume" for recruitment.
She also shared stories of girls who wouldn't pose for pictures during HS senior week with old friends who were a bit alternative and didn't have the right sorority "look" because they didn't want it posted on social media as it might jeopardize their recruitment chances. I know this is not true of all Southern schools, and not representative of all people who rush, but in 2023, this is truly discouraging and despicable behavior that places me firmly in the anti-Greek camp. I don't think I'll watch. |
| I attended a commuter college. I never would have attended a sorority. The real purpose of these sororities is for women to learn how to manage other women. In some ways these women are very smart not to compete with men, to stay firmly in their own lanes, and to become leaders of only other women, and not try to be leaders of men. The U.S. will not accept women as leaders of men. |
It works. The kids in the top frats & srats marry each other. |
| I read somewhere that, at least a few years ago, Alabama sororities gave all but 100 girls (out of the thousands rushing) a bid. It is my understanding that as long as you don’t drop out of rush before the week ends, and don’t pick really unrealistic first choices, you’ll get a bid to a house. |
Um, the hell? |
That all absolutely tracks if you’re reaching for a “top” house and you also need the letters of recommendation as well. It’s definitely a lot for an average 18 year old. |
| Sounds boring. |
Ah, that's why your such an angry little thing, again, my condolences. |
| I'm waiting for the HBO hit job coming out on the all black sororities when they turn asian and white women away. Wait, that will never happen, the show I mean. |
