How on earth...did you inherit your book?

No, but I moved it from a Wall Street firm to an independent BD where my payout is now 94%. Also a lot of new business since moving - I think clients are seeking out small family owned firms over Wall Street names.

I was thinking: grocery contracting. Something to consider.

This makes me laugh. 30 year old VP.

30 is actually quite old for VP in finance. It is not a senior title like in industry. If you are at all competitive you should hit that by 26 or 27, and be an ED by 30.

Not all companies have ED prior to MD

For context only around 4% of the federal workforce is GS15 - they can’t all be married to each other and posting on dcum!

These responses are not even close to being representative of the real world.

Most professors never crack 100k.

Some of these salaries are really about where you live too. In lcol areas and small markets they could be making a fraction of the salary for the exact same job just because of their zip code. There are regular cops in California who make 200k plus a year. School librarians on Long Island who are making 150k a year. Move their job to Alabama or Mississippi and see how their salaries are slashed.

Wow, I never ask people how much they make!

If you’re a woman or married to a woman you should. It’s one of the only ways to narrow the pay gap. Many women don’t ask for what men do and they should! The worst an employer/potential employer can say is “no”. I was making $150k 10+ years ago at a nonprofit. One of the reasons I made that much was because I was really good at negotiating salary increases at every new job. Now I make close to $400k out on my own.
