Will Fenty win the DC mayoral primary against Gray?

Anonymous
Make sure you get that straight, 20:50: Unions are doing all of the hard work that you don't want to do. Because you are a long-term beneficiary of unearned privilege, and it is slowly, thankfully, slipping away from you. You get that straight, you hear? Time for other people to get theirs for awhile. And Vincent Gray is going to see to that.

P.S: Due process. I don't know what it means, but I like to say it.

Also, just for good measure: equal protection. Yeah. That.

And what, exactly, did 20:56 have wrong with respect to the facts concerning Salena Walker? Those facts are simple and uncontested: As an ambulance driver, she contributed to the death of a patient entrusted to her care. Instead of taking him to the closest hospital, she took him to the one that was more convenient for her schedule of personal errands.

These are facts. She got her job back because the Court found that they hadn't fired her soon enough! So the next time unions want to complain about rushes to judgment, they're really going to have to suck on that.

That whore belongs in a prison, not on a payroll.

Not unusual for DCUM, but you really have your facts wrong about the Selena Walker case. Her case had nothing to do with her being a member of the union and everything to do with the District Personnel Manual. The DPM needs to be changed. But, if you would deny Ms. Walker her due process for her claims to be heard in a timely manner, how many other people would you deny due process.

BTW--you really have a hard-on for unions. What exactly do you have against union employees. I am not in a union, but I accept their right to exist. IF you decide to pack your bags and move to MC, PG, HC, VA, etc you should beware that their teachers, firefighters, police officers, social workers, trash collectors and collection officers are also unionized. Based on your writings you believe yourself to be above these people, but they do the hard work. The work that you would not do. They do the work to keep your arse safe and your streets cleaned.

I don't think I'm above unions. Both of my parents were in them. And I realize that union workers such as firefighters and policemen and garbage workers do tough, hard, work. Selena Walker's gross negligence was the proximate cause of death for Mr. Rosenbaum---but you want to sweep that fact under the rug by focusing instead on Ms. Walker's right for her claims to be heard in a timely manner. I lose respect for unions when they evince a willingness to defend the grossly incompetent. She was reinstated because the DC government took longer than 90 days to fire her. Yet if they had fired her immediately, they would have been accused of an untimely rush to judgment that denied Ms. Walker her due process rights. Well, what about the rights of Mr. Rosenbaum not to be killed by the negligence of DC EMT Walker? And what about the risks to the rest of us because of her reinstatement?

Very well articulated, but you're wasting your time in responding to the person who posted to you. She can't follow a logical train of thought, and is singularly obsessed with stripping you of your undeserved privilege.

The original question was about our predictions, not our predilections. However you feel about Robin Hood Gray, I'd estimate that the great majority of people outside Ward 3 think Ward 3 gets more than its share of City services, and a fair percentage of those in Ward 3 are probably sensitive enough to agree. I don't know whether that will be enough to overcome Fenty's war chest, but I predict it will work in Gray's favor

Fenty is winning in Ward 8 right now.

And Gray doesn't just want to divert services from Ward 3. Whatever gave you that idea? No, no. He's targeting a much broader range. In fact, if you live in Wards 1, 2, 3, or 4 -- well -- you best be prepared to have you unearned privilege taken from you. But I'm sure everyone in those Wards is sensitive enough to agree that this is the right thing.

Seriously. Who are these people that think that Ward 3 is some utopia -- and the only one on Gray's list?

My bet is that the folks of Wards 1, 2, & 4 are also interested in their home values and the education of their children. I'd even wager that most of these people think they work hard for what they have and do, indeed, work hard for what they have.

Jeff lives in Ward 4. Yo, Jeff: We know your feelings on both candidates, but answer this discrete question: Do you feel that you've gotten more than your fair share of the City's services? Do you think your privilege is unearned? Would you gladly have it stripped from you, since you are sensitive to the needs of other Wards?

Hmmmmm. Fenty lives in Ward 4. I wonder if, conversely, he feels that he got the short end of the stick and that he needs to strip those people in Ward 3 of their unearned privilege. Yup, our little townhouses and apartments, rowhouses . . . we're all really living high on the hog here.

Yeah, Ward 4 really has it tough. Jeff and Fenty are so poor and their houses are so dilapidated. They probably have to shit in an outhouse and use a bucket to bathe.

And what about that fucker Obama? Confined to Ward 2 -- not able to mingle with the truly elite of Ward 3. He must be really pissed.

Ah, the joys of stereotyping an entire Ward, all of its people, and all of its homes. . .

C'mon guys, it's free, it's fun, and anyone can play . . .

It looks like someone got under your skin regarding this privilege issue. In my opinion, Fenty believes that as long as trash pickup and snow removal are satisfactory, he is free to rob the city's treasury of anything that's left. What's more, he appears to be correct. People happy about short lines at the DMV are giving Fenty a pass regarding his use of city funds as a slush fund for his frat brothers. It's ironic that Fenty supporters suggest that Gray will institute cronyism (and he may well do that), but disregard the rampant cronyism that currently exists.

Fenty must love every minute you spend worrying that Gray might take away your dog park while ignoring the truck loads of money being delivered to Fenty-friendly developers. I don't think its "privilege" that he is giving to Ward 3, so much as a bribe (or your cut of the deal). It's just whatever it takes to keep your eye off of the big picture.

Also in my opinion, there is nothing in Gray's background to suggest that he will do any better. Do we really want to trust the future of our city to a guy who can't even properly build a fence in his own back yard?

And as for his General Counsel being the same lawyer who represented him in a malpractice hearing (assuming that is indeed the case): What is your objection to that? It's a political position. He can appoint anyone he wants. Lots of politicians bring their own people with them. If that is corruption, everyone in government is guilty, and apparently very brazen, too, as they've made no effort to hide the fact that they've brought their people with them.

Yeah, you can appoint whomever you choose to political positions, but why on God's green earth would you want a man who refuse to financially support his offspring to handle some of the city's finances. Now that's fucked.

Gee, genius, let's ponder this one. Until today, this man was not handling the city's finances. He was the Mayor's General Counsel, with whom he has a long-standing attorney-client relationship. Fenty is entitled to a lawyer he likes; the attirney's personal failings in his personal life are not relevant to his ability to be a good lawyer to Fenty.

As to the new finance job, it's simple: this man has been loyal to Fenty, and Fenty wants loyal people around him. Whether this man has been loyal to his family is not relevant to his ability to do a good job for Fenty.

Why don't you go back to telling us about how much we all need to be stripped of our unearned privilege?

Have you found a therapist yet?

Hey honey you have the wrong person. I am enjoying my unearned privilege of simply being a beautiful woman. No, I do not want it stripped from me. I will gladly accept that men will consider me dumb because I look good, and then well, the joke is on them. But, as to your faulty analysis as to what one does in their personal life should not transfer to their life in government is asinine. It would make no difference to point that out to you and why, for as previous posters have stated you are full of excuses and hell if the Devil himself was appointed to a fiduciary position of responsibility by Fenty, you would make an excuse for that appointment. LOL at you.

But she did not get her job back because she was in a union. She got her job back because her employers, DCFIRE failed to give her notice of her termination within the requisite 90 day timeframe outlined by the District of Columbia Personnel Manual. The DPM only allows for a toll in such notification if there is a pending investigation conducted by law enforcement, i.e, MPD, FBI; OAG and US Atty Office. Ms. Walker's investigation was conducted by OIG which the court determined was not outlined as a tolling agency per Dstrict of Columbia government's own policies. Now if you want to argue that the DPM should be changed to include OIG, I totally agree. However to say that the union contract mandated her return is misrepresenting the actual facts.

Do I wish Ms. Walker was rehired, absolutely not. I would not want her showing up at my house in case of an emergency. Do I believe in due process more, yes. Do the shit right the first time and you do not have to worry about courts reversing cases on technicals. I also believe in karma, Ms. Walker probably was not a good employee, therefore, she will hopefully fast track out of DCFEMS. Hopefully, the fire department will process her exit correctly if given a second chance.

Jeff, I won't claim that Gray has been a bastion of strength as Council Chair, but I think fencegate is a red herring. According to the deed for my house, half my front yard appears to be public right-of-way because there was once a possibility that the street we're on might be widened. A Post article (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/05/23/AR2010052304072.html?sub=AR) seems to show that Gray may have a similar situation where the distinction between public and private may be unclear. In any case, it appears to be a petty issue blown out of proportion.

I still don't see you just shrugging and leaving the decision of who will lead the City to the rest of us. Is there anyone who has a hope of getting your vote, even if only as a lesser of evils or as a symbolic statement?

Jeff, as my high school English teacher used to say: Answer The Question. She called it "ATQ". You were asked a question. This should not have been interpreted as an invitation to pontificate on any issue you wish, no matter how entertaining the delivery may be.

No one can take away the dog park finally finished in McLean Gardens. It's finished. And it was well-earned.

Also, I love the shorter lines at DMV. And everyone in all Wards can enjoy them.

Why such division. Why is it Wards 1, 2, 3 and 4 versus 5, 6, 7, and 8. Is this one city or a city of 2. What say you when their are houses in Wards 6 and 5 worth more than homes in Wards 4 and 2. What is it Northwest versus the rest of the city. Wow. Your vitriol is overwhelming.

No, you're definitely the same lunatic poster. Only now you're staring in the mirror, chanting, "I'm so pretty, oh so pretty, oh how pretty, how pretty am I . . . " I'm sure you're gorgeous, toots. But no, the writing in unmistakably you. It's like a fingerprint.
