Youngkin will block schools from accommodating transgender students

“In a major rollback of LGBTQ rights, the administration of Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) will require that transgender students in Virginia access school facilities and programs that match the sex they were assigned at birth and is making it more difficult for students to change their names and genders at school.
Under new “model policies” for schools’ treatment of transgender students released Friday evening, the Department of Education is requiring that families submit legal documentation to earn their children the right to change names and genders at school. The guidelines also say teachers cannot be compelled to refer to transgender students by their names and genders if it goes against “their constitutionally protected” free speech rights.
And the guidelines say schools cannot “encourage or instruct teachers to conceal material information about a student from the student’s parent, including information related to gender” — raising the prospect that teachers could be forced to out transgender students to their parents.
School districts must adopt the new state guidelines or “policies that are more comprehensive,” after a 30-day comment period that will begin on Sept. 26“

Thank God!!! I don’t want a boy in my girl’s bathroom.

Except now apparently you will have trans boys in the girls bathroom.

All this policy does is prevents schools from cutting parents out of their child's well being and education. It prevents schools from doing things like creating a hidden, parallel SIS account for your minor kid with a different gender, name change and diploma without your awareness or consent. It prevents deceit by the school system.

If your child is gender fluid or trans, or you think you are open to it, just send your school a signed email that says your kid has your written permkssion to experiement with gender, nicknames, pronouns and any bathroom they want to use.

The policy simply protects parents rights and brings parents into the fold.

It does not ban trans kids. That is a lie for political posturing.

What are the school faciltiies and programs based on gender? Programs include sports so read about Penn and swimming. Most teams have cuts so what might have been a cut on men's or an average or below average team member after the cuts on men's is a starter on women's.

https://www.politico.com/news/2022/06/19/world-swimming-transgender-athletes-00040722

Swimming exploring a third category? 3rd category bathrooms and lockerrooms? What if a woman is L in LBTGQ and is cut from a team try out or gets less game time for T born male?

So much “concern” from the anti-trans bigots.

My post was about women's sports. You think it's fair for those collegeiate swimmers? Take it down levels to HS varsity and JV. Soccer might have 23 on the varsity roster. JV has cuts and from JV trying for varsity there are cuts. No varsity soccer for those who were cut after 2 years on JV. Great layers can go onto playing in college whether it's D1 or D3.

Honestly, you know more about sports and transgender issues than Caitlyn Jenner? https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/01/20/caitlyn-jenner-transgender-athletes-womens-sports/

Funny how you are SO CONCERNED about a handful of transgender athletes when there are bigger issues that affect thousands of women’s athletes.

That, my (not)friend, is called bigotry.

And you will have transgirls in the boys bathroom getting beat up.

I guess that’s a feature, not a bug to Republicans.

Not one girls parent minds if a girl presenting as a biy uses the girls bathroom

The issue is any male, at any identity, can claim at any time that they identify as a girl to gain access to intimate female spaces such as girls locker rooms or bathrooms, with no pushback, even if that man is fully male, not actually trans, and has never entertained the idea of transitioning.

Getting parents involved brings sanity to a situation that has gone entirely off the rails.

Just a signed email? I thought you had to bring in legal documentation?

Not the filtered news articles.

Your outrage should be tempered significantly after reading what Youngkin's decree actually says.

This! Youngkin is entirely sensible and sane.

I’d want to know if my kid was being bullied or being a bully to someone else. Why can’t I also know if my kid is demanding to be called a different name and pronouns at school as well? It’s wrong to keep this information from parents when kids spend a lot of their waking hours at school. It’s still a parenting issue, not just a schools issue.

I hope you see that the order is MUCH more than that, but the answer is obvious: trans kids get abused by their parents all the time when they find out. Look at the stats; they are horrifying. A absurd number of trans kids wind up homeless. Many teachers want those kids to feel safe around them.

+1, teachers can protect children as well, it literally part of our job. Some parents are closed-minded A$$HOLES, why would I encourage student harm/fear? The kids who want their parents to know have already told them. If your child is trans and you don’t know, then your child is afraid of you.

I think most people are aware of the high rate of suicides, but if you don't know your kid is transgender, and the school won't tell you that either, then you don't know what to look out for.

At some fcps middle schools nearly half of the girls are trans right now.

Most of their parents have no idea.

Probably they are scared their Youngkin-voting parents will send them to conversion therapy. Or disown them.

Or there is a lot of anti woman peer pressure on girls to reject womanhood, particular on social media. Along with a movement to define womanhood in very strict gender stereotypes where any girl who isn't a Kardashian type is told she must be a boy.

Is that the latest talking point from your radical feminist friends?

Those of you exclaiming about “fads” where all biological female teens are now trans, where are the studies and data to support these wild exaggerated claims? Are there really long lines for the boys restrooms now too?

Huh? Why shouldn't parents be responsible for knowing what their children are doing? Why should a teacher have to report that a kid wants to be called by a nickname etc. This is putting teachers way too much in the policing role--a high school teacher has hundreds of kids, by the letter of this law if Johnathon wants to be called John teachers could be culpable for not informing the parents. This is ludicrous.

Have you read the order?

Yes. I am opposed to any legislation that requires teachers having to police students and report to parents. I am also opposed to all the bathroom-monitoring crap.
