I’m in Gatlinburg, TN

OP here, and I'm a man. Why do you assume every poster on DCUM is female?

Take any county in America. The more it voted for Trump, the less likely Trump or his family would ever want anything to do with it or the people who live there.

He and his family disdain those people. And yet they worship him. He wouldn’t set foot in their homes or eat a meal with them.

Same with Democrats though. The sheer amount is elitism and snobbery that’s acceptable in the Democratic Party is concerning. And it didn’t start with Trump - Trump gave them a reason to justify their disdain of the underlying people in the first place.

And I say this as a Democrat.

And people in DC are fatter than those in NYC or Europe. That's the nature of this country and the Standard American Diet.

I'm originally from CA. When we moved to the DC area, we went to some fairs, like the Ag fair, Renaissance fair. I was shocked at how many obese people there were.

DC itself doesn't have many obese people. In general, cities don't have a lot of obese people. It's the suburbs and rural areas that have a lot of obese people.

But the south does have an outside share of cities with the most obesity, with TN leading the pack:

Fattest Cities in America
1. McAllen, TX 11. Chattanooga, TN
2. Memphis, TN 12. Tulsa, OK
3. Baton Rouge, LA 13. Augusta, GA
4. Little Rock, AR 14. Greenville, SC
5. Shreveport, LA 15. Fayetteville, AR
6. Birmingham, AL 16. Myrtle Beach, SC
7. Jackson, MS 17. San Antonio, TX
8. Mobile, AL 18. Wichita, KS
9. Lafayette, LA 19. New Orleans, LA
10. Knoxville, TN 20. Nashville, TN

That list of fattest cities is so sad. 100% red states. Loss of stable factory jobs and the GQP rules everyone up about how they are victims. It didn’t have to be this way.

One of many subjects JD Vance tries to make sense of in Hillbilly Elligy (poorly). He laments that his grandmother eats nothing but junk food which hastens her death, then also gets angry at people who try to do something about all the fast food restaurants in their area, like, "who the hell are they to be telling us what to eat??"

He's such a dunce. A very conflicted dunce.

Similar to how Republicans oppose healthier school meals and demonized the First Lady who tried to improve them.

noticing how people are obese in certain parts is bougie? This word is bandied about all too quickly and often, even when it does not apply.

Use whatever adjective you want to describe snobby posters who sneer at those who are overweight and assuming everyone in a certain area is an ignorant boor.

But are they hijacking immigrant uber drivers and dragging them to their deaths? Are they wearing black bloc and starting fires and yelling BLM slogans at diners? Are their stray bullets killing toddlers? DC is no garden of eden.

Obesity sucks. So depressing. But its all over... central Valley CA, rust belt, New England.

Big food and big pharma have made these people. The saddest part is that they support the GOP, who makes it possible to exploit them.

I hope you aren't serious. There's a Democrat running for governor in Georgia. Extremely smart, well educated, very capable and personable--but not thin.

All those things promote Black Lives Matter and black empowerment. The Uber driver was clearly racist for not giving those girls his vehicle when thry demanded it. Racism has consequences. He found out. The arsonists are burning down business and churches built by white people. That’s empowering. The black people killed by stray bullets fired by black criminals are much better off and more noble since they weren’t killed by white cops.

You don’t seem very bright if you can’t figure this out.

I’ll leave politics out of it, but we were in the Smokies this past summer and Gatlinburg is just not my cup of tea. Smokey Mountain National Park while crowded, is beautiful. If you get off the road and get on the trails you can escape the masses. That’s the part of the Smokies I enjoy.

I don’t think that’s a conflict at all. You don’t remove the fast food restaurants because some person lacks the ability to make healthy choices. That only punishes the people who DO make healthy choices. I eat pretty well and definitely enjoy a fast food meal once in a while.

And if you had no other options you'd be enjoying it less and eating it more.
