Asheville is very liberal. Lots of transplants and retirees from all overvwith money.

Real estate is crazy in Sevier County (includes Gatlinburg) now. Beautiful cabins that sold for 400k 3 years ago are now selling (and still going pending) for 1.6M to 2M unseen. Lots of out of state and foreign investors buying/renting as air b&b. No way is this sustainable.
