Were these fat white families? Would you have more understanding if they were black families and overweight?

Perhaps get out of your bubble more often and see the country. Not just the elite parts of the country. It may not be pretty but hiding in your tower isn't helping anything.

Where do you glean that OP is a liberal? Nothing about that post suggests “I am a liberal” to keep…

Everything about OP suggests they're a liberal. If OP isn't, they should clarify.

I am too but I'm not a hypocrite.

I'm the OP and I'm pretty libertarian/center right. And I'm still in Gatlinburg, but took a drive to Asheville, NC. Holy s*it, what a difference. It's like night and day.

Asheville is very liberal. Lots of transplants and retirees from all overvwith money.

A lot more people wearing masks, lots of pride flags and book stores. I think I gained back a few IQ points just visiting there.

Sevier County also beat Nashville last quarter in tax revenues. A lot of $$$$ running through that county with 15m tourists a year. Also 80% republican. Sevierville has a Trump store that is popular. Also, don’t miss “goats on the roof” in wears valley. Enjoy!! We love Dolly Parton!

Sounds terrible. I wonder what Dolly Parton has to say about all these hate souvenirs? I bet it will hurt her brand if people start asking about it.

Sounds terrible to YOU. But not to the millions of people visiting and trying to retire there. Nothing hurts Dolly’s brand. Try again.

And people in DC are fatter than those in NYC or Europe. That's the nature of this country and the Standard American Diet.

I'm originally from CA. When we moved to the DC area, we went to some fairs, like the Ag fair, Renaissance fair. I was shocked at how many obese people there were.

DC itself doesn't have many obese people. In general, cities don't have a lot of obese people. It's the suburbs and rural areas that have a lot of obese people.

But the south does have an outside share of cities with the most obesity, with TN leading the pack:

https://www.wkrn.com/news/tennessee-news/where-are-the-fattest-cities-in-america-report-ranks-4-tennessee-cities-in-top-20/

Fattest Cities in America
1. McAllen, TX 11. Chattanooga, TN
2. Memphis, TN 12. Tulsa, OK
3. Baton Rouge, LA 13. Augusta, GA
4. Little Rock, AR 14. Greenville, SC
5. Shreveport, LA 15. Fayetteville, AR
6. Birmingham, AL 16. Myrtle Beach, SC
7. Jackson, MS 17. San Antonio, TX
8. Mobile, AL 18. Wichita, KS
9. Lafayette, LA 19. New Orleans, LA
10. Knoxville, TN 20. Nashville, TN

That list of fattest cities is so sad. 100% red states. Loss of stable factory jobs and the GQP rules everyone up about how they are victims. It didn’t have to be this way.

Here is what I find so frustrating.

Take any county in America. The more it voted for Trump, the less likely Trump or his family would ever want anything to do with it or the people who live there.

He and his family disdain those people. And yet they worship him. He wouldn’t set foot in their homes or eat a meal with them.

One of many subjects JD Vance tries to make sense of in Hillbilly Elligy (poorly). He laments that his grandmother eats nothing but junk food which hastens her death, then also gets angry at people who try to do something about all the fast food restaurants in their area, like, "who the hell are they to be telling us what to eat??"

He's such a dunce. A very conflicted dunce.

TX is purple and will probably turn solid blue soon, due to all the people fleeing California to move to Texas.

The homeless population has exploded in Asheville in the last ten years.

I love how OP body-shames people in her lame attempt at virtue signaling.

This thread is bougie as hell.

Real estate is crazy in Sevier County (includes Gatlinburg) now. Beautiful cabins that sold for 400k 3 years ago are now selling (and still going pending) for 1.6M to 2M unseen. Lots of out of state and foreign investors buying/renting as air b&b. No way is this sustainable.
