You were just walking around Dollywood with your family (or Pigeon Forge? Gatlinburg?)and saw all that? And then someone just out of the blue said to go back to your country?

It was Gatlinburg. We were walking around on the main street (not sure of name but I think it's the main drag), it's full of kitschy shops/places to eat, street was crowded. This woman (maybe in her 30s?) looked at me in the eye and told me to go back to my country. And then she kept walking. Anymore details you need PP?

No, I just find it surprising. Most tourists there are busy buying all the discounted items and souvenirs for sale or eating fast food.

Unless they see a person of color. Then the MAGA comes out.

Actually, that part of Tennessee has a fairly large number of immigrants from Mexico. Many of them work in the factories. There are also quite a few biracial children enrolled in the schools.

And do they feel welcomed there? I assume they moved there because of the jobs so even if they get harrassed they are going to stick it out because they need the job. This is what my father went through in a different state in the 70s and 80s.

Yes. I have an adopted Asian brother who lived in Tennessee for a while. His wife was from there and so he lived there for a short while. I guess racist don't distinguish between nationalities as he was equally called "chink" or "spick" There was a lot of prejudice that he experienced there

I would never live or visit there bc of the MAGA policies and laws. Would never let my daughter live there or any MAGA state

this is why I don't want to visit certain parts of the country.

I'm an immigrant and in a biracial relationship, with kids. I don't want my kids to be exposed to this kind of ugly. They will eventually. No need to expose them this kind of hate early in their lives.

Please stay out of Arlington. We went to Arlington Fair on Saturday and received many side eyes and outright insults from white people. The immigrants were nice.

I call BS.

I call BS on much of this thread. Just the usual excuse to trash white people and/or Trump supporters. So transparent, immature, and ugly.

It’s not trashing white people. It’s trashing obese, foreigner hating, uneducated people.
You know, the MAGA crowd.

What's especially pathetic is that you actually think your comment is an accurate assessment of everyone who's a tourist there.

No. Pay attention. Just the MAGA people.

You might want to pay attention to the comments grouping everyone there as a MAGA. Same kind of mindset as Trump's way of describing entire groups of people and countries.

I see nothing in this thread describing everyone there as MAGA. It does say there are an inordinate number of MAGAs there, which I bet is true. I’ve been there.

Also, I'm far more turned off by how rude and awful you sound than those people that you are describing.

Were these fat white families? Would you have more understanding if they were black families and overweight?

Perhaps get out of your bubble more often and see the country. Not just the elite parts of the country. It may not be pretty but hiding in your tower isn't helping anything.

Agreed. I usually vote progressive, but it’s nasty of OP to be so judgmental. Honestly, it’s one of the reasons my family left DC. I’d rather be around a political mix of people - even people who are politically apathetic or don’t like to pick a party label. It’s better than being in a community where if you aren’t hewing to the party line you’re an outsider. We spent time in WV and NC this summer, as well as liberal Maine and MD. It was nice to be out of the bubbles.

Your daughter is going to rebel against that heavy-handedness, and will probably become an outspoken MAGA!

Have you been to the Chicago area? I’ve never heard so many ethnic slurs in my life, especially in Berwyn. Don’t get me started on the UIUC frat boys.

I would never allow any of my family - immediate or extended - to live in the south.

It’s just so judgmental and dreadful in every way!

Oh, the irony that you used the word judgmental ...
Judgmental describes YOU.

This cracks me up.
You really think you have the power and authority to "allow" your family to live in a certain place?
And, if you want to talk about judgmental..... honey, look in the mirror.

Perhaps you should go to the classier Diggerland in NJ or Adventure Park in NY.
