And it amazes me that, wherever we go, there are entire families where everyone is not just fat, but morbidly obese. Even the kids, who are more often than no inhaling a bag of chips or drinking sugary soda.

I have a college buddy that lives there. JD/MBA. Liberal as hell.

BUT cannot talk politics with neighbors -- everyone armed to the teeth and enough extra ammo for WW3, per him.

I visited family in TN every summer when I was a kid. OP sums up Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge perfectly! My family member had relocated to TN from NJ and referred to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge as "the pits."

Those places aren't places I'd choose to go. Interesting that you did. You must have something in common with the other tourists. Will add that there are plenty of obese people in every state. Don't kid yourself thinking otherwise.
