Distressed mom can't believe that The government says the state can control her body in the United States.

How can we help? Does the formula factory need more employees? I have a soon to be high school graduate that will be looking for a summer job.

He needs to open his own factory since this one is closed.

So that how can we help? The pp said "if you're able to help please do." I'm (sincerely) wondering what can the average American do to help? Or what kind of person can help (just people with the means to open their own formula factory?) and how can we support them?

They are already pulling from other factories - including one in Ireland.

I am so confused by this thread. Abbott's formula was contaminated. Pretty clear that they need to clean up their act. Why is this thread now 7 pages?

100% deflection from GOP insanity.

Because while it was bad that the formula was contaminated, some children are dependent on formula that was only made in that plant which remains closed after months. Some kids with severe food allergies and metabolic conditions will die without their formula.

This is what happens when they're capitalism. Their water is also still being poisoned in Michigan, but you don't hear much about that anymore either

Okay? And what do you want - the FDA to re-open a contaminated food line so more kids can die? Tell the parents to source non-Abbott or even non-American formula. I hear Americans cross the border to Canada and Mexico for lower life-saving prescription drugs all the time.

OP, would you like to come back and tell us the point of your post?

In a recent budget document, FDA asked Congress to consider giving the agency new authorities to help prevent this type of situation from happening in the future. The agency noted that “no law requires manufacturers of infant formulas or essential medical foods to notify FDA when they become aware of a circumstance that could lead to a shortage of these products.”

The agency would like to see a requirement that companies notify the agency if there are anticipated interruptions.

Sounds like a deliberate shortage to force control.

It's a chance to rail about the imagined evils of capitalism. It's like someone blaming their house for not being able to carry them to the grocery store down the street.

Sure, you give him the authority to do that and we should have a plant up and running in 3-5 years, if everything goes well.

I think it goes without saying that no one should allow themselves or their kids to become dependent on a single source of anything, but these are some pretty stressed out parents dealing with some pretty significant medical issues so I’m not going to blame them here. But if they thought the government was going to fire up the socialism machine to save their kids, they really haven’t been paying attention. The extreme right wing in this country will fight tooth and nail things that could save thousands of kids, let alone a few highly disabled ones. The sanctity of the baby’s life ends the day the birth mom decides to keep it.

But most people would call that “socialist” so we can’t do that. “Pro life” and “saving babies” only has meaning when someone gets to profit from it, apparently.

Let’s start naming the rare medical conditions. Will the baby or child ever be able to function and eat on its own regularly cooked meals at some point?
Or what is going on? What quality of life are we talking about? America certainly had issues with extremely costly End of Life care and an entitled attitude to Live Forever at all expenses.
What are we talking about here? Not acid reflux formula. Not soy formula for lactose intolerant.

Medical decisions are made between a patient and doctor only. Why do you think you have the right to “name” and discuss other people’s medical issues?

The left is full of insane hypocritical jerks, that are revealing themselves to want to kill other Americans.

Np. I want to know what we’re dealing with as well. Is this a child that will rely on costly assistance their whole life? That’s unsustainable.

This does not sound like allergies, or lactose intolerance or acids reflux— Since many brands of costly formula exist for that in brand or private label format.

If I’m paying for it via taxes for decades per child, I’d like to know.
