Will your kid make a big deal about "revealing" their college choice?

I just asked my DD about this and she said "I thought that was only for southerners and kids who want to go greek."

It's actually more prevalent among NJ/NY people, than southerners.

And I will do a final reveal when DC is ready.

To each his own.

You shared where your kid was admitted? Like multiple schools? Umm

Yeah, that's really tacky. Just share with friends and family where the kid decided to go. Only people really close to you will care about the rest.

I think having some fun and getting your kid excited about wherever they’re going is totally fine. I’m a little mystified about why so many people on here are so anti-celebration. Life is tough, let’s take the wins and celebrate them!

It is the DC-area way - misery loves company!

It's not anti-celebration, it's anti-performative and materialistic "reveals" on social media. But our whole culture is so narcissistic and shallow, it's not surprising.

I can’t believe people post every admit that their kid got! I have never seen this; I guess I have chosen my friends wisely.

These are actually kind of cute.

Those are standard. Filling a bed with swag is really unfortunate. Was this started by companies that sell college junk? Do boys do this?

I have chosen my friends wisely as well. Not one person was upset or demeaning.
Everyone is different.

That figures. Materialistic, wasteful over the top nonsense. A tee shirt or two, a sweatshirt, a mug or hat and enough already.

DD wore the college tee shirt. Acceptances trickled in and she wore once she was admitted. So people saw her in different ones. She hadn't decided. She was literally trying the college on for size!

Pretty much, and the DC area. I personally know 0 southerners who do this.

What is your problem with this? It’s not your kid or your social media. Why are you so critical of anyone doing it differently than what you’d prefer?

It was explained. It serves no purpose and it can be a real bummer for kids that got rejected from a school that their friend is admitted to and won't even attend. Why do that?

We just had fun with it. Dc made his decision, we drove to the school for the day and bought a sweatshirt, then he posted a picture wearing it with his grandma, posted to FB. It was cute and low-key.
