Another * to note is the Yorktown v Madison game was called after 3 quarters, instead of a full 4 quarter game. A similar track record, but Yorktown D is the much stronger unit and LB O has the edge. Wish we could see a game between these two to settle this! I would also agree that Yorktown has the slight edge at this point based on the tougher schedule playing 2 of the top 3 vs LB's 1 of top 3. My guess is that Robinson beats LB by more than they did Yorktown, but another * is the Robinson backup goalie was in vs Yorktown, so maybe Robo beats Yorktown by more with starter in net? Who knows!? |
14-8 Lake Braddock |
|
Some surprises last night.
South County 6 West Potomac 5 Oakton 10 South Lakes 9 The bottom half of the top 10 is a bit of a mystery. Very inconsistent play. |
State Champion coaches use scrimmages to get everyone in and evaluate their talent. Teams with new success scrimmaging the former state champs keep their main guys in the whole time to "win" the scrimmage. |
|
We are too far into the season to worry about pre-season scrimmages. Good news is we may get a chance to see this matchup when it counts. This year it looks like VHSL Class 6 has an eight team state tournament instead of a four team tournament. Region C second place (likely Lake Braddock) is set to play Region D first place (potentially Yorktown) in the first round. Could be an instant classic.
Way-too-early hypothetical matchups if the tournament were to begin today. Robinson/Madison Lake Braddock/Yorktown Battlefield/Colonial Forge Patriot/Cosby |
| Some interesting district games going on this week. Can't wait to see the "Unofficial" 6A rankings/analysis going into this week! |

Week 6 - 2022 VA Boys Public 6A “Unofficial” Rankings
1. Robinson (9-0) Results: No games Analysis: No activity last week. Informative matchup against West Potomac, but expect Robinson to win by big and show just how wide the gap is between the best overall team and the bottom half of the top 10. Up this week: vs. #9 West Potomac (4/19), at South County (4/21) 2. Battlefield (7-0) Results: No games Analysis: No activity last week. Easy week ahead means Battlefield should be a lock to hold on to the #2 spot for another week. Up this week: vs. Osbourn Park (4/21) 3. Patriot (3-2) Results: No games Analysis: No activity last week. Should be an easy game against Osbourn Park. A testy rematch away at Freedom, who Patriot only beat by one in OT at home earlier in the season, is the game of the week. Patriot needs two wins this week to stay at #3 and cement its spot at the top of Region 6B with Battlefield. Up this week: at Osbourn Park (4/20), at #7 Freedom South Riding (4/21) 4. Yorktown (5-2) Results: No games Analysis: No activity last week and just barely continuing to hold off Lake Braddock for the #4 spot. Yorktown should be able to handle Herndon and Dominion easily. While Dominion is the defending 4A State Champs, they are not the team that they were last season and have not looked great this year. Up this week: vs. Herndon (4/19), at Dominion (4/20) 5. Lake Braddock (8-1) Results: Def. West Springfield 15-4 Analysis: Crushed previously unbeaten West Springfield. LB should make easy work of Fairfax and Alexandria City this week and continue to push Yorktown for the #4 spot. As discussed on the boards last week, not much separates Yorktown and Lake Braddock. Up this week: vs. Fairfax (4/19), at Alexandria City (4/21) 6. Madison (7-3) Results: Def. Chantilly 17-6 Analysis: Convincing win against a solid Chantilly teams shows Madison still deserves a place in the upper tier with the Top 5. Madison should beat Centreville fairly easily. Matchup with Oakton could be a contest if Oakton comes to play or if Madison has an off night, but if Madison is on its game expect them to win by a comfortable margin. Up this week: vs. Centreville (4/18), vs. #10 Oakton (4/21) 7. Freedom South Riding (4-3) Results: No games Analysis: No activity last week. Big three-game week ahead, with a tough game against 7-1 Indy and a huge rematch against Patriot to try to show that Region 6B is still a three-team race. Up this week: at Osbourn (4/18), at Independence (4/20), vs. #3 Patriot (4/21) 8. Langley (4-3) Results: Def. McLean 12-8, Def. Marshall 10-3 Analysis: Langley won the games it needed to win last week but still doesn’t look like a contender. They need to keep beating the easier district teams this week before the big matchup with Yorktown the following week. It remains to be seen if Yorktown and Madison have Region 6C locked up already or if Langley or Oakton can sneak back in the mix. Up this week: vs. Washington-Liberty (4/19), vs. Herndon (4/21) 9. West Potomac: (6-3) Results: Lost to South County 6-5 Analysis: Unexpected loss to South County, who was coming off a seven-game losing streak. Seems like all the teams towards the bottom of the Top 10 are very inconsistent and hard to predict on a nightly basis. Recent win over Oakton barely keeps West Potomac one spot ahead but they did not look like a top 10 team this week. West Potomac runs into the Robinson buzz saw this week and will likely show that Region 6C belongs to Robinson and Lake Braddock alone. Could be a shakeup in the #9 and #10 spots after this week. Up this week: at #1 Robinson (4/19), at Fairfax (4/21) 10. Oakton (5-5) Results: Def. South Lakes 10-9 Analysis: Close call against unranked South Lakes - see above regarding inconsistency. It hard to understand how Oakton can play a two-goal game against Lake Braddock, then lose to McLean and barely beat South Lakes. Big week coming up with tough games against Madison and Westfield. Oakton needs to beat Westfield and play Madison reasonably well to stay in the Top 10, and Westfield could sneak in with a win over Oakton. Up this week: at Westfield (4/18), vs. #6 Madison (4/21) Others Receiving Votes: Westfield (6-4), West Springfield (5-1), Alexandria City (8-1), Woodson (5-4) |

Rankings/analysis look awesome - excellent job once again! Pretty stable given all the inactivity last week, particularly among the top teams. This week should be interesting with 3v7, 1v9 and 6v10 games. Agree inconsistency from middle on down is a little tough to judge - some of the results this week may help sort out. Nice job again and appreciate all the effort. Look forward to the games this week.

| Very solid rankings and write up! Only edit I would make is saying chantilly is solid. They are, in fact, not solid at all this season. Everything else looks spot on! |
| Well, by solid I just mean decent but not really good. I think Chantilly is in the 14-20 range with McLean, Centreville, Woodson. They are not great but beating those kinds of teams 17-6 and 14-2 shows me Madison may still be a contender. |
| Robinson beat WestPo 17-3 last night. Looks like there's no letup with that team. Both Madison and Oakton won Mon night, sets up good showdown later this week. Yorktown and LB also took care of business albeit against more average teams. |
| Langley beat W-L last night 9-0. It probably could have been closer if W-L hadn't fumbled away possession time and time again. |
|
Some interesting games yesterday. Madison/Oakton score is kind of shocking.
Patriot 12 Freedom 5 Robinson 19 South County 4 Lake Braddock 18 Alexandria City 5 Madison 13 Oakton 1 Langley 8 Herndon 3 West Potomac 16 Fairfax 1 Westfield 8 South Lakes 7 Woodson 12 West Springfield 10 Centreville 8 Chantilly 6 |
Agree Oakton had just an awful night. Granted I think Madison probably played their best game of year but Oakton looked like they were playing their worst. Just a weird vibe to game right from the start. Madison's definitely firing on all cylinders again this year - will be interesting to see if they can knock off Robinson or LB in regionals. |
|
Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think Madison and LB or Robinson are in the same region. Madison is Region D and Robinson and LB are Region C, so they wouldn't potentially play again until States.
