Federal judge rules that admissions changes at nation’s top public school discriminate against Asian

How is the school discriminating against anyone under the old system? Please explain. Isn't it based on merit? How is merit discriminatory? If you want to get into the school, you need to do the work and study your butt off. How is that racist?

So what is likely to happen to the current applicants (the Class of 2026), who started the process months ago? There isn't realistically time to start a whole new admissions process. Isn't the thing to do to eliminate the experience factors (i.e. bonus points for being economically disadvantaged, an English language learner, or attending a historically underrepresented school) and evaluate the current applicants based on the remaining factors (i.e. GPA, student portrait sheet, problem-solving essay)?

Will they try another way to get the outcome they want? The Order just specifies they can’t use the current admissions process. It doesn’t say what components, if any, they can keep. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do some sort of lottery. The applicants for the class of 2026 were to receive decisions by the end of April. Doubt that will happen now.

Delighted with this. The process was shoddy and rushed - and that is highlighted by the judge in his ruling.

It is not racist.

The racism here was: the radical FFX school board and Dr. Brabrand implementing a racist revision to the admissions process.

For the court, this was a “no brainer.” Board member Omeish was caught in an email confessing

“This all feels like anti-Asian racism. lol:”

Laughing about being racist against Asians - while at the same time being racist against Asians??!

Why does this person still have a seat on the school board? Are we all OK with an elected bigot??

So you think the only solution to Black kids being qualified for TJ is to create and support systemic racism for Asian kids?

Its like creating Israel for Jews by displacing native Palestinian Muslim Arabs in the middle east - to make up for the atrocities of Christian Nazis in Germany and Europe

Qualities of hard work and TJ-worthy high intelligence are racial traits that are only found in Asian-Americans. This gives them an edge over other races. Therefore merit is discriminatory as it benefits Asian-Americans.

I think you should sleep.
It’s 2-0. First, Youngkin and now this. Throw in what played out in San Francisco. And now the Supreme Court is reviewing affirmative action.

System A: Students take a test to get into a school. The top 550 students get in. There is no consideration for geographic diversity. There is no consideration for SES diversity. Test prepping is rampant, and reserved for those that can afford it.

System B: Students take a test. Prior to the test, the school makes a decision on what scores are likely to result in "successful" students. Everyone who scores in that range is put into a pool. 750 students make the cut. The student population is then selected with various factors in mind, including geographic and SES diversity. Students that are ranked from 450-550 are left out.

System A is more fair except that test prepping is not "reserved for those that can afford it." It is/should be universally available to those within to put in the effort.

System B is not fair to students who don't meet the "various factors," which do not appear to reflect ability to benefit from the specialized education.

It should become like college, grades, essay, recommendations, extra curricular. No test. Make it a black box, they can admit who they want.

Because this method would remove the discrimination against Asian Americans? Or because this would achieve your racist anesthetic ideal of some preferred racial balance?

This judgement won’t stand. Judge Hilton is a long time white supremacist so his decision is no surprise. The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals will overturn this one.

I agree, close it. I am so sick of paying my tax dollars being abused for that school. Everyone should go to their neighborhood school period.
