Yep, it's not a crime. One of my kids has a deranged stalker fellow student filming him at high school. Nothing the school can do, but tell her to stop. They cannot take her phone. They cannot ask to see what she filmed. She can deny. You are allowed to film in public places. It's totally creepy. Police can do nothing. That was kind of the barista, but they do not have to erase it or stop. The laws need to catch up with phones.

Thought it was illegal to film without consent if the film is recording audio.

Would only apply where have the expectation of privacy. There’s no expectation of privacy in a public place.

My DD is 4’11” She looks 15. To be honest, she was concerned about calling police because the men were not white, and therefore did not want to cause a scene (her friend with her was also not white, so no, they are not racist. So she contacted me I told my daughter that we should not consider race when it comes to creepy behavior - err on the side of caution.

Of course they weren't white. As if this story was already unbelievable. I'm not much taller than your DD and I never acted so clueless at 25. She may look 15 but she is definitely not. Stop making excuses for her immaturity.

I was asked by a man to go to his hotel as I was walking through Reston Towncenter a few years back. Like it was expected i should and he would pay me. I was dressed modestly, no make up, younger looking. It was rattling. Had I been younger or less confident it could have been very upsetting. I considered reporting him but mostly wanted to get out of there.

I think maybe you take a photo of the film-er, report it to the store so they know to watch those guys and then leave.

Honestly if it’s just film of people sitting there at Starbucks it is creepy but I don’t think a crime?

Meh, not OP but I don't think it's disturbing. I'm 46, but in my 20s I had many strange men make me nervous in public. Women are conditioned to not rankle men or make them uncomfortable so I would tolerate it - try to not rock the boat - then after the encounter I'd always regret it. I used to feel horrible about it until social media in the last 10 years introduced me to a ton of feminists who would call out and label this behavior as totally normal survival skills.

I'd love to think a 25 year old woman would go over and call these guys out - but in the moment it's normal to freeze.

OP here. She knows Mommy takes no f-ing prisoners. LOL. She alerts me so I know what’s what and can work from my end while they work things from their end. Police loved that she called me.

Both of us have. My DD is also training in Krav Maga and has a device I gave her that she can keep in her palm) she uses it while running) that flexes as you move your hand, claws come out. They are hollow and collect DNA. It’s called TigerLady. The first thing you do, though, is alert people in the vicinity and let a trusted loved one know where you are and what’s going on.

I find it a shame that young people see color first and danger second, that’s just me. I don’t give a crap if the men are white, black, brown, green, or purple, danger is danger.
