PP here. Great post by an obvious enthusiast. I also have an Omega (actually 3 of them). All are great watches and keep slightly better time than my Rolex GMT. That not withstanding, the Rolex remains my overall favorite. |
Stupid post by a sad striver who knows nothing about watches. |
Please tell me how to be a real man. As a real man, do you adorn your truck with luxury truck nuts instead of wear jewelry? Can't wait until you tell me what looks 'gay'. |
+1 on the great post Why do you like Rolex better then Omega? I have a Baume and Mercier Classima quartz because it is very thin and it looks good. Also, I have an Omega Speedmaster Dark side of the Moon Meteorite. I like that the face of this watch is 2.5 billion years old and I like that the back f the watch is transparent quartz. |
I like the Rolex GMT because it wears easier than my Omegas. It’s slightly thinner than all but my quartz Seamaster Omega. Also, the bracelet is more easily adjustable for a more comfortable fit. But don’t get me wrong, I like my Omegas a lot and they all get wrist time. You’re obviously into watches and you have a nice collection going there. |

Will you be upset if he gets you a cheap gift and you've gotten him a Rolex?
Please involve him and let him pick out the Rolex. You don't want to buy an expensive watch that he doesn't like. |
| Go look at the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony. Such a great classic watch by the oldest Swiss watchmaker. A few are in the same price range as a Rolex and you will be getting a much, much better watch without the “bling” factor. |
+100 |
| Since he is married get self winding on hand he uses to spank the monkey |
| I like experiences over gifts. Is there something he hasn't experienced, or not experienced in a while, that he'd like? Perhaps several times over his 10th birth year? |
Careful here! You don’t want to overwind that watch and break the mainspring!!! |
No worries, a quality automatic watch will prevent that. |
Pretty sure that was a joke about overwinding. |
The Submariner is very, very popular with those in the military. My brother in law was a Command Sgt Major and he wore his every day. Sadly he passed at age 50 from glioblastoma. My sister was shocked after he passed that it appraised at $30,000. I believe he bought it for several thousand dollars. |
OP, I'm prior poster. I took a look at the GMT and my brother in law may have had the GMT. He wore his watch every day and he loved it. Again, My sister was shocked that the rolex appraised at $30,000. |
