I wear a Casio G Shock. My first one lasted me 10 years and my second one which I'm wearing right now, has lasted me 9 years. It's durable can get wet and it only cost me $95.

If money was no object, I'd still buy nothing but Casio's from Walmart.

Good luck finding a new Rolex or a dealer who will sell you one if you’re not already a customer for MSRP. The resale market has cooled down some but it’s still awful and the new is just impossible.

Depending on model, you may pay 30-50% above MSRP on the Gray market. Meaning not from an authorized dealer (AD). AD’s have no product and when they get only sell to top existing clients. Worst time ever to buy a Rolex. Coming from someone who has one and really wants to buy another.

I have two Rolex watches which I select from when dressing up, There are more expensive brands, but none have the instant name and design recognition of Rolex, which is one of the most valuable brands in the world. Watch snobs will point out that other brands like Patek are, rightly, equally or more well-regarded among the cognoscenti, but you encounter those kinds of people only rarely. Say "high-end watch", or "What watch do CEOs and celebrities wear?" to 100 people, and 99 will define that as Rolex.

All that aside, Rolex watches come in quite an array or models, materials, sizes, and price points, so purchasing one as a gift without knowing specifically what the recipient wants may be risky.
